hmmm!!

mum used to say going out with wet hair gave you a cold??

as did going out without a coat on?

my gran used to close her windows at night because she thought night air was bad-air??

we never used to, and I still dont eat meat on Good Friday

when I was younger and had a scabby sty on my eye, one of my mums friends told me to, I think this is correct, "rub the wedding ring of a widow on it to get rid of it" not sure if they were just having a laugh or not come to think of it :?

Here are some excerpts from my mom's book of quotes.

Do not do a cutting motion with the scissors if you are not cutting. It creates fights, arguments, etc.
Do not keep a shoe or a slipper upside down. It creates fights.
Do not shower after eating. It's just what the elders say.
Do not dring milk after eating fish, or vice versa. It can give you skin disease.
Do not stand under a tree after sunset. Bad spirits hang about.
If you get two visitors (or two phone calls) in one day you will get a third one too.
Do not open the umbrella in the house.

We often used to get into very serious arguments on these issues. I am so glad that I moved away from all that crap when I started university, and now almost permanently when I am 1500 miles away, and I see them once a year.

Cheers,

Laguna, those are kinda funny!

When I was little my parents told me if I kept crossing my eyes they would stay that way. They also said that if I swallowed watermelon seeds or cherry pits, etc. that a plant was going to grow inside my stomach hahaha. Also don't swim for a half hour after you eat or you'll get a bad stomach ache. That one is true half the time I think.

I hate how people say that EVERYTHING gives you cancer. Snuggling down under an electric blanket, using a cell phone, eating apple skins, standing too close to the microwave... I mean, give me a break.

i got told rubbing a ring on a sty in your eye works too, dont think i ever tried it, but leese just reminded me of that one 8O

The rubbing a wedding ring thing is supposed to work. Something to do with the gold and the cold apparently. Always worked for me.
