Northerners 'show Southerners how to party'
PEOPLE in the North love burning the midnight oil in trendy bars and nightclubs, while Southerners prefer a dinner party at home, according to research out today.
The report by ICM shows that staying in and entertaining friends is becoming increasingly popular, spawning a new breed of home entertainers dubbed SHEFs – Stay Home and Entertain Friends.
The SHEF trend is particularly prevalent in the South, however, as only a quarter of people in Scotland and the North choose to stay in on a Saturday night, instead opting for a night out in a bar, club or restaurant.
The research, commissioned by winemaker Ernest & Julio Gallo, shows another regional variation - more than a quarter (26 per cent) of Southerners choose to drink a glass of wine to unwind after work while 23 per cent of Northerners believe a beer is the best way to relax.
