Was asking nitefly what he thought of it... (as he's the Johnny Ross of spotlight) Was also asking if anyone knew what the craic was sticking a foreign speaking film in with all the english speaking films at the DVD shop.

I've noticed that films with subtitles have creapt into the mainstream but i'm of the opinion that they should come with a warning.. or am i showing my lack of trendiness by not liking films with subtitles.

Are we clear now?

Personally I think that if a film is good it doesn't matter if its got subtitles. Some of my favourite films of the last few years are in a foreign language (City of God, Amelie, Hero....etc)

I don't know if I get it but is Kes saying that only english films are good or is Kes saying that only subtitled films are good or what?

Was just venting my frustration really on the issue of subtitled films finding their way into the english speaking films at the DVD shop. Thought they should have their own section or come clearly labelled.

And was having a sarcy pop at the fact that it has become trendy to enjoy films with subtitles. Not picking on anyone here but i've heard some very unlikelys going on about how great a subtitled film was and seen a few of these films creaping into the mainstream... I'm preeetty sure they wouldn't give subtitled films a second look if it hadn't become fashionable. Was avin a dig at those guys

I'm sure their are some excellent films with subtitles and i'm probably missing out but i just can't be arsed with them

Subtitled films should come with a warning, there's people who don't like them. I don't like translated films, translators are crapt and at the end of the day all films have the same odd voice I've seen really good films totally disgraced by a bad translator

I don't know if it's the same in the UK but here in Spain subtitled films usually are more underground or whatever you want to call them (here is Art and assay). If you want you can call it trendy but I think it's about target, I can't imagine a cinema full of teenagers watching Armagedon and trying to read the subtitles, while if you are ready to cope with an asian film you'll be able to cope with the subtitles

yeah it's underground here too and therefore trendy,cool, hip. I was using the term trendy/fashionable to refer to those who jump on the bandwagon just because it's trendy,hip,cool and the fact that it's finding it's way into the mainstream

In the States they subtitle all foreign films... no dubbing. I'm fine with that if it's a language I understand (Russian, Spanish) but I find it harder to concentrate on other films.

In Russia, everything is dubbed. No subtitles (unless you're attending the premier and they haven't got it dubbed yet, which has happened to me). That's a royal pain if you're watching a movie in English and you want to hear the original voices!

Surely it's not difficult to tell that it's a foreign film simply by looking at the box, or the actor's names??

It also says it if it has subtitles.

I particularly much rather have subtitles rather than dubbing. You lose so much of the film if you cant hear language its being spoken in. Particularly in Japanese and east asian films.
