Newcastle

Going up to Newcastle for Friday and Saturday nights on a stag do. Looking for some recommendations/advice peeps.
Theres quite a mixture of people going, younger (20-21) lads who will be happy with some Ritzy type place or that boat, “older” 40-50 , who will be happy anywhere but theres a few of us who don’t wanna end up in some cheese-infested place in the biggmarket!

Any ideas for bars and clubs?

Also , in Liverpool we most of the time go out just in jeans/t-shirt and trainers (not scruffy ones I may add) , is there likely to be any problems getting into places dressed like this?

Thanks in advance!

For clubs I would suggest Shindig on Sat night - June 18th Seamus Haji (Big Love Records) £12 to get in should be a good vibe or NICE which is held at the Stage Door - classed as a 50% gay, 50% straight club but the music is funky house - no big named DJ's just ressies (£5 on the door).

These clubs are at entirely different end of the town to each other but walkable distance as Newcastle is pretty small. For Bars I would suggest Tokyo (warm up bar for Shindig) near Central Station or Camp David (warm up bar for NICE again near Central Station - across the road from The Centre for Life). Another good bar (which is pretty near to Shindig - Quayside area) is Stereo - full of the "beautiful people" good tunes, good range of drinks and a lot more spacious than Tokyo.

For the more mainstream amongst you I would suggest Tiger Tiger - 8 bars and a nightclub all in one building and next to Tiger Tiger is The Gate, about 9 bars in there ranging from full on cheese to a funky lounge music. Other good bars around the town are The Apartment, @ Home, Bar 55. Avoid the Bigg Market (IMO) rough as a badgers arse..... and also the Quayside (gone down hill a bit in the last couple of years.....) There's something for everyone in Newcastle. So you shouldnt be disappointed....

Enjoy !!

PS Friday night at Foundation is Promise usually, (a hybrid of hard trance/house and a younger crowd than Shindig)

puppylover > I cannot wait for space-digital to open.

I think it 's a really good move for shindig: and the TOON! 8)

Rave on!

PL thats great - exactly what I was looking for!

in the bars youve mentioned will trainers/clubs be ok or is it shoes only?
and are there any other dress codes I should be aware of!

Thanks again

Was speaking to a couple of the guys from Shindig about this last night - sounds really good, and I am hoping because of the location its gonna get a more diverse crowd in (ie the gay element from Times Square) rather than the beered up steroid boys who are so fond of standing at the back of Shindig fighting the effects of the beer against the effects of the drugs..... and looking, well shiney I suppose for what of a better word.... ;)

The mixed crowd at Powerhouse when Lawler & Dubfire played was rocking.

I know what you mean.

stay clear of the goddam boat and the beach place (baja's?)

awful... the boat smells of BO. Its pungent. Unfortunately the only times Ive been to Newcastle has been on lads weekends, so we always get dragged there (1 of the 2 clubs). they are hell on earth!

baja's redeeming quality is scantily clad women (and the fact i pulled a hot bird there the last time) but thats it. Its a laugh and that but id rather have gone elsewhere given my, er, mood that night.

Ive had the misfortune to board that boat and its grim. I would rather just stay in the hotel bar than go there again. It does stink, and its on some weird angle like its gonna capsize. Imagine the Poseidon Adventure on there.......!

Never been to that Baja beach gaff, I think it'll go down well with the pervs of the group (all of us then... ;) )

I wanna try a 'proper' club , I just hope I dont let the drink cloud my thoughts and end up somewhere terrible!

If your judgement gets clouded somewhat, also avoid Attic (plays mostly RnB all night) Sea nightclub - (RnB/Robbie Williams/Bryan Adams/and one faithless track Insomnia which dj the dj will fade it out at the crucial bit and mix in a Kylie track..... 8O  ) oh and the Blu Bambu in the Biggf Market - murder on the dancefloor/toilets/bar area/and probably outside in the taxi Q too....

Cheers again PL, Im beginning to get the impression theres more places to avoid than places that seem ok to visit ;)

I know I'll forget and end up in one of the places you've told me to avoid.....

i remember being in one pub in the big market about 3 years ago, the bass was incredible, felt your innards being shifted about. when i went last october it was shut though (i think).

problem with stag nights is that its a big mix of people with different tastes. at the end of the day, your there for the stag, i'll bet you end up in baja's with the stag getting stripped bollock naked and made to run across the bridge. watch out for the busker lady playing bon jovi :D:D

hell yeah, its a stag do, you will be riding a buckin bronco and dancing the night away in baja....i feel for you i really really do

if you can slip away then tokyo and shindig are a must <3
