Michael Jordans Steakhouse - Grand Central Station (above the concourse)

most moist bit of meat ive ever had between my lips.

Empire State at 9-10pm - no q's compared to 90mins wait 1st thing in morn.

SoHo for shopping, nice lil boutiques. (head for the Apple Store).

Sil, do the helicopter trip around Manhatten Island - superb. Apart from that, just get out onto the streets and walk, its very difficult to get lost and there is so much you pick up. I also found it feels safer than London and wasn't at all worried late at night or coming out of bars in some of the less salubrious districts.

Have a great time, I'm jealous :evil:

Do the bus tours, when I was there last year did the uptown and downtown bus tours. You can get a ticket for both for about $50 and it lasts 48hours so you can jump on and off. I couldnt recommend it enough if you are tight on time. Also the helicopter trip is excellent. 8)

'Florien' in Soho is at the other end of the scale (price wise) but top food.

The Oyster bar in Grand Central station is very good as well...

I can also highly recommend a place called 'Scores' as well but it may not be your cup of tea! :lol:

Century 21 for shopping - designer seconds, etc.

And then all the obvious tourist things - Central Park, Chrysler, Empire State, 5th Avenue, Times Square, Saks, Barneys, etc

I love the place. Only place I've ever been where I've thought....Yeah I could live here. 8)
 
rhythmism.com for the party calendar. villagevoice.com for the restaurant reviews. Most of the good restaurants here are ethnic/fusion. Asia de cuba, Spice, tonnes of others. Chewie, I used to work at Jordan's. I would have warned you had I known you were gonna waste your pence! Keane's is the premier underground steakhouse here. You should try our british restaurants, too funny. They are charging sick money for bottles of Daddy's Favourite,and packages of shortbread! Soho and the village for shopping, dont forget to walk over the brooklyn bridge. Sunday nite is ofcourse Le Souk.
 
Go on a boat trip round Staten Island Sil, the city looks fab overlooking it that way.

Also Central Park is absolutely gorgeous, we spent hours wandering round there, we went ice skaing there altho it probably won't be cold enough when you go.

New York is just such a fab place, I could just spend hours and hours wandering round finding places :D
 
Silvia - I couldn't agree more with the others above. You just have to get up early and get out and about and explore - it's just the best. I can't wait to go back 8)

As much as I love shopping though, I never liked Century 21 - I walked in, saw it was like a jumble sale and walked straight back out - it was horrid :twisted:

That was my exact sentiments on Century 21, I thought it was just like a big glorified jumble sale and was like Oxford Street on the first day of the sales :evil:

eat at The Place west4th st in greenwich villiage. my cousin's place. lovely atmosphere and great mediterranian food. say russ sent ya and you may well get a drinkie on the house ;)

Last time I was there I walked from times square, up to the guggenheim, then all the way back down to soho - was a great walk, and as Ben says, it's really hard to get lost 8)

did soho to times sq EVERY DAY for 4 days...

only cos i couldnt figure out the subway, and when we did brave it, ended up going over the east river into brooklyn.
