New Motorway?

unfortunately there is a motorway

Which appeared to make it a lot easier to get around the island (I returned from there Ibiza this morning), before I realised I was comparing it to last years when the road works made it a pain.

Whether it's any easier than before that, is hard to figure and the big modern digitally signed tunnels definitely detract from the island's rustic charm.

Know what yr sayin', but those roadworks were a real pain, so anything has to be an improvement!!

unless it is worse than what you had in the beginning or more pertinently, worse than what you had in the beginning and unnecessary.

 :x

No, wont be worse, getting into Evissa at busy times of the day, always was a nightmare!! Getting onto the Main Rd from Jesus could take 40 mins, and be real torture!!

There's 2 examples!! Everybody seems to be talking about how good the Road is!!

it scares me to death travelling on it. it just makes it easier for somebody with a 50cc brain in charge of a 5 litre v8 to travel much faster than the speed of thought.

a few more roundabouts and a lot more road sense would have accomplished the same reductions in travelling time as the motorways have but at an infinitesimal fraction of the cost.

Interesting!! So what you saying?

I'm looking at it from a Holiday point of view, making the flow of traffic over the Island better quicker & less of a chore!!

to echo stephen's article, i'm saying that a disgusting amount of money has been thrown at this (much of which is now lining the pockets of associates of politicians) for a super mass transit system on a small island.

from a holiday point of view, traffic is not actually flowing that much more freely, certainly not to any extent that would justify the autopista.

moreover, these works strike at the heart of the island's identity. i'm looking at it from a "when i live there" point of view.

Well said. I hate the motorway.
Just got back from a 4 day visit to Ibiza, only experienced the road at night in a taxi, the taxi drivers seem to use it as a formula 1 race track!
You cannot see any scenery just concrete, you could be on any motorway in the world. It will not solve any of the traffic problems in the summer, cars will just get from one bottleneck to another quicker. It's spoilt the Island for me, I shall only use the San Jose road in future as a protest!

I would have been in favor of just making it a constant 2 lanes/each direction from San An to Ibiza Town. Even the bypass of Sant Jordi made some sense. But all this tunnelling at San Rafael and other various "improvements" were excessive.

The overpass/roundabout thingy they did at Jesus is a travesty. Absolutely unnecessary...

To me it would be the same as building the M66 (North Manchester to Rawtenstall (look it up on streetmap.co.uk)) on the Isle of Man.....total overkill designed to line the pockets of a certain powerful island-linked family (allegedly).
