New look for San Jose's beaches

"There's going to be a new look on many of Ibiza's beaches this year courtesy of San Jose council. They've just introduced new rules which will apply during the bathing season which runs from May 1st until October 31st.

All staff working on the beaches – hiring sun-loungers, parasols and so on - will now have to wear a uniform. A pair of shorts, a yellow t-shirt and baseball cap will have the words 'Serveis Platja-Beach Services' emblazoned across them in big black capital letters.

Even better news for those who like to do a bit of sunbathing in peace and quiet is that the tranquillity of the majority is to be respected by banning the following activities: loud music, parties, ball games, animals and best of all the most annoying game in the world, Bat and Ball.

There will be special areas set aside for football, volleyball and so on, even special competitions, but these will be away from the sunbathing masses. The council are backing up the new rules with fines of up to €3000 and the presence of a beach watchman who'll make sure that they're observed"

DOES THIS MEAN BORA BORA WILL BE BANNED FROM PLAYING MUSIC AND HAVING PARTIES????

Wow! Sounds like maybe the end of the Blue Marlin too. Of course, this could also just mean that it's illegal to take your personal boom box to the beach and jam out....

I'm hoping its the latta, if no beach bars can play loud music then the authorities over there really are going OTT.

hmmm. the words silent majority and loud minority spring to mind here??

'quote unquote discuss' as my old professor of politics ralph miliband used to say..............

i hope this isnt as stricked as it sound's i went to san an last year for the 1st time and i love being able to hear the music while chillin out on the beach for god sake thats what the island is about..... music !!!!!!

Not to Stephen it isn't

It won't be too long in this thread before the "only 25% of tourists who visit the island are clubbers" statistic will rear it's head!

were have to wait and see. I dont think i can handle the beach without any music.
Theres always Mykonos to check out.

can i suggest an ipod which you can have as loud as you wish and play whatever you want without bothering people like me who prefer to listen to the sound of the sea on the shore and the breeze in the trees whilst 'chillin' on a beach.

lol, it's hardly the same stephen. I'm not saying every beach should be blasting music to everyone in a 3 mile radious, But for a blanket ban is just harsh.

i have to disaggre here stephen...
everywhere in the world there are beach bars which play music louder than the normal...like everywhere in the world there are beaches which don't have beach bars and are peaceful and quite...
you just have to make a choice there...where would you like to go;)

P.s:it's like the smoking ban...although smoking is not healthy for those who don't smoke there have to be place for those who do smoke...

probably 99.9 % of ibiza´s coastline is music-free.
stay away from the 0.01 % (borabora/satrinxa/bluemarlin/...)
where "loud" music offends you.

i like this , too.
the good thing @ ibiza is:
there are enough places for everybody -
for music AND seasound/treesbreeze AND whatever
:-)

Yes we all know how fantastic those silent discos are!
Like i said theres many beaches where you can enjoy the sound of the waves, i to like that sometimes. Clubbers only cover a fraction of the beaches in ibiza as ur most deffinately aware, What does a few people dancing having a good time outside Bora Bora/Blu Marlin etc really hurt.
I dont see what this new rule is going to achieve, The beaches you frequently visit no doubt are quiet ones anyway. People love ibiza because its got everything great scenery, great people and fantastic music. If you want to go out and dance you can, if you want a tranquil trip around the unspoilt countryside you can.
If you ask me ibiza just wants to be another 'menorca' with no character.

ha! the loud minority has a voice. why should i go out of my way to avoid a nuisance??

surely to goodness the most sensible way is if a few people want to make a noise which annoys everyone else - then they should go to some out of the way place where they can do whatever they want.

for the population of Ibiza in the winter the amount of music things happening there during those month is more than enough...
