I keep having to force myself to drive past the dealership and not order the GTI I now though that when i take my current Golf for its next serivce i'm gonna blatantly fall into temptation

The GTI looks good, agressive enough but I don't like the last restyling in the other models, it's very conservative

Yes, VW have taken a small step sideways as well as forward with the Mark Five Golf. It does not follow the distinct family pattern that the first Four Golfs did.

The GTI is brilliant though especially as they've used many styling clues from the Original Mark One GTI 8)
