McRackin do you know if they have finished with.. whatever that construction is? I have heard some very alarming rumours about CDM, will be interesting to see if they affect the operation of the cafe this Summer...

Well since they are only rumours I better not speard any of them in public. It's just bizarre situation, nobody seem to know what is going on.
 
i can tell you what's going on. the island's biggest recession in living memory. there are half (and less) completed buildings all over the island, so the fact that cdm has one is hardly bizarre, nor that it may (or may not) have 'problems'
 
Ibiza music confirmed that the rumours about cdm having closed down their long running label are most likely true. The people running it have dissappeared months ago without notice, which has angered many artists and business partners because they were not informed nor paid. So looks like CDM is in serious trouble, how deep, this summer will tell. But anyone expecting new music will be dissapointed.

All Business needs borrowings to survive. Its the repayment of this debt that is crippling many places at the moment, especially the ones that expanded into new premises during the later years of the boom.

CDM only trades during the summer season so its lying idle during the winter. The Cafe Del Mar CD's cater only to a niche market and not much profit there. The CDs are a marketing tool rather that a profitable venture.

Sad to see but likely that CDM will be forced to go bankrupt unless they have friendly bankers or a rich investor.

Not necessarily financial. It is just rumoured the problems are caused by a major fight (disagreements, lawsuits etc) in the Cafe del Mar management. They could have handled it much better by notifying the fans & business partners about delays, difficulties etc. but instead they chose to ignore everyone without any reason given. So nobody has a clue about their future plans.

Bez they have other franchise than the one in Ibiza that are in operation all year around. But most of them are outsourced to different owners.

Yes, but when Debts out value the assets of any company, Bankruptcy looms on the horizon.
 
trouble is times i have been to all beach bars over the years,i see more people drinking there own drinks.

which is not good really.and the rates must be high as well.even though a small coke drink is 4 euro its does not make up for the 6 months its empty.

Well apparently they are making sure they go to bankruptcy. They licensed tracks exclusively and then dissappeared without releasing nor paying anything. That is quite certain method to piss off the few decent artists they have left.
