I am flying out on wednesday and arrive mid day, bringing an old (and I mean 70 old) friend who has been coming over to the Island since the 60's but han't made it in the last 5 years. He has lots of dosh in bank Santander in Santa E and needs to make a personal appearance to get it out.
So far I think the bank shuts at 2.30pm so we could make it there if we drive straight from the airport, just heard a rumour of a fiesta or something that kicks off on thursday and could close the bank which might render the old hippies trip a waste of time, bless his tiny socks!

anyone know if the fiesta rumour is true

If its Santander can he not take the money out from the Strand Branch in London?

I have an account at the Santander in Ibiza Town and any transactions into and out of the account can be made through their international branch at the Strand (Santander International Personal Banking 406 The Strand London WC2R 0NE. )

thanks for the tip about the 8th, the rumours were true!

I think he has tried branches in the UK and on mainland Spain but they wont help him, tell him he has to go into his branch in Santa E. I'm sure he hasn't tried Santander International Personal Banking but having coughed £230 for the flight, he may as well come along and keep me company.
We only have half an hour on the 7th, the 8th and 9th and now the 8th is off it could all go pear shaped anyway so I will pass it on.
Thanks guys.

He cannot use the high street Santander's in the UK, its only the branch at Strand (which is a bit of a pain when you live in Cheshire!)

Probably would pay for him to come out with 2-3 useable days to spare in case he has to go to the bank more than once. E.g. if it's a significant sum he wants to withdraw or if he wants to close his account.. banks these days find all sorts of reasons why things 'can't be done' until piece or paper x has been signed by person y !!

Your right. In Ibiza, even hanging a picture on the wall can turn into a days work! Anyway, we can only try.
My own bank in Ibiza town took 7 years before getting my UK address right. Then one day I received 80 sets of statements in one go. Lucky it was online so I was never to bothered.

What a bunch of robbers the Santander banking group are given that they closed my account without my consent because it had seen nil use/ transaction for a number of years. When i left Wales for pastures new i didn't want to fully close my then Abbey account so gave them my new home address details albeit abroad ofwhich i received a bank statement every month. After 10 years we then moved location again but i forgot to let the Abbey know about the move hence on one of my very rare return's to the UK this year i visited my old Abbey branch only to discover they were now taken over by Santander. I asked a female staff member if i could give my new home address details ofwhich she asked for my account number along with my old address details and current Passport . I was shocked on finding out that after Santander took over the Abbey Banking Group they'd closed my account due to the fact that despite it having around £30 because no transaction of any type had been made for a number of years along with the fact i hadn't notified them of our move Santander closed my account  I only left £30 in the Abbey account just incase oneday along with the wife i moved (not very likely) back to the UK but alas i guess Santander thought that they'll not make much profit with such a small amount so???? Apologies if i offend anyone but Santander are not worth banking with.

They dont make any profit on £30. I read that anything under £1000 doesn't make the banks and buildig socities any profit. They need us to either keep getting ourselves overdrawn (and paying for it) or taking out loans.

I agree:

However the strange thing about banking is when one has little or no money the person often get's bombarded with letters etc for taking out a loan and thus paying back very high intrest. And yet when one is fortunate enough for having a very nice lifestyle:) the same bank then bombard it's clients for opening various accounts which they say will benefit the account holder but the only winner is the bank themselves.
I have assets with a major french bank but i'm now thinking off closing the account and transfering it to either a Suisse or offshore bank, as the euro it would appear looks doomed.

.. then you really will start paying for the privilege of them holding your money for you

Voilà:

The Swiss franc weakened against the euro today on the increasing likelihood of the Swiss National Bank lifting the franc-euro cap and introducing negative interest rates by next week's policy meeting.

The SNB had set a floor of 1.20 francs to the euro on September 6 in an effort to curb the strong franc which was affecting Swiss exports.

Today Finance Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf said negative interest rates and capital controls “are issues which are being examined” by a committee looking at ways to counter the currency's strength.
