Mykonos a gay island???

Does anybody know, is Mykonos really a gay island? Or it just happens that a lot of gay crowd goes there? I`m asking this because I might not go to Ibiza this year and I wanna hear what people who`ve been to Mykonos think? I wouldn`t want to go there and be the only hetero male on the island. Worse, I wouldn`t want every female on the island to be homosexual. Any info would be helpfull. I`ve searched the net and it just mentions something about the greater gay community being there throuout the summer. Thanx in advance. :cry:
 
There is a large gay community on Mykonos, and also lots of straight peeople.. I loved it and so did my boyfirend! I would definately recommend it to anyone, great bars and restaurants, and also some decent clubs. Take plenty of money though, cause its not a cheap place! ;)
 
...totally agree with Scoobie. Im gay and dont like exclusively gay places and found Mykonos nice and mixed. Mind you I went in June, not peak season. Theres a fantastic beach called Super Paradise that you've got to go to - apart from the beach being stunning, theres a fab bar on the beach, with swimming pool, and some pretty funky music playing if you're lucky (not by a live dj if I remember rightly). Be warned: drink prices in the popular bars are nearly on par with club prices in Ibiza.

Where are those places people use to mention on this board, Ayia Napa (sp?) and another one with a name that I can't remember? People on here say they're not recommendable because they're for 'San An Westenders', lager louts and people who like urban music or something so?
 
Nice settings & beaches are great and cristal clear but you need a fat wallet; drinks at sunset bars beat Ibiza'. Great island though
 
I´d love to go, heard so much about it, my friend Neil is gay and he went and he´s not into those super gay´ish places, as he´s not obviously gay himself (but still proud of being it) and he LOVED the place, because it was laid back, cool, not OTT and beautiful!
 
Thank you all. My friends and I decided that it was extremly expensive. We cheked out sume studios, hotels etc. and found that we`d be a lot cheaper if we went to Ibiza. Since we don`t have that kind of cash, we`re thinkin about Ios, a little island south of Mykonos. If anyone knows anything about the isle, what it`s like, post here. Thank you so much! Have fun in Ibiza this summer! :o

Both places (Ibiza and Mykonos) are very nice in their own way.
Mykonos is more familial, because the island is mush smaller and not so commercialised like Ibiza. But Mykonos is very gay orientated, much more than Ibiza. But Mykonos is definitely not such expensive like Ibiza, especially the nightlife. Hotels are little bit more expensive but also better. You don't find in Mykonos such ugly hotels like on Ibiza.

There are alot of gay guys who do go to Mykonos, but you don't notice it as much. There is a small section of the main town which has 'gay' bars, but it is only a small section of the main town.

Mykonos is beautiful..........it has alot more character and charm than Ibiza IMO. Ibiza is much larger and it has more of a commercialised feel to it than Mykonos.

the only thing Mykonos doesn't have is a big club scene...........Mykonos is mainly bars. They have DJ's and music but they are not clubs as such. The only real clubs on the island are Cavo paradiso and Space, but they are nothing like the clubs on Ibiza.

I would say 70% of the tourists in Mykonos are Italians........i was shocked at how many Italian tourists go there. I didn't notice many British tourists at all in Mykonos.

If you like bars, great restaurants, awesome shopping (the shopping is much better than Ibiza.......heaps of arts and crafts, jewellery etc), great beaches and a place full of charm, then you'll enjoy it.

Ios is ok, but it doesn't have the same appeal as Mykonos. It also has a higher concentration of 'gays' since Ios is much smaller than Mykonos.
 
Before I went to Ibiza I also read and heard a lot of stuff about Ibiza being a hot spot for gays, but I did not come across anyone. Well anyone who was "flaming" enough for me to identify. Hence, I no longer pay much attention to that stuff. In addition, I took a step back and thought to myself that there is no such thing as a "gay island". I mean what the island is run by gays? Silly me. By the way, Laguna Beach (especially south Laguna) is also known as a gay town :roll: .

I hope to go to Mykonos soon. My hair stylist is a Greek, and she was telling me that I gotta pay a visit to the island.

Mykonos is great but don't agree on restautants been better than in Ibiza. I was shoked at prices for(imported or farmed) fish :roll:

what are you talking about? theres Fire Island in the US of A to start with.
but that aside, we like to add a touch of class and sophistication to those straight run islands.

Exactly, Bubble! Not at all, Tiger. I love living here. What I meant by the rolling eyes is that, people call Laguna a gay town in the same way as people would classify Mykonos a gay island, or San Francisco a gay city. It is an over-exaggeration. So the rolling eyes is sort of saying "whatever".

Elvissafan thanx for the photos, I already kinda know what MYkonos looks like. FOr all of you gays on the forum, I`m not some gay bashing neandarthal, I just like to have more girls on the island. Respect to you all! And thank you for the infos :)
