I'll be doing this in stages as I don't have the patience to do it in one go.
Anyyway, here we go -
Wednesday – We leave my house (well, the pub we got picked up from, actually) at 2:00 for Gatwick, upon arrival we did all the checking in Jazz and all that malarkey. Then we went for some brekkie and a few pints in the Yates (where did the weatherspoons go?
)... We completely lost track of time in the end and had to run to our gate. Made it with about 5 minutes to spare.
Hopped on the flight and off we went, Not even the group of irritating girls behind us singing ‘hey, we’re go’an to Ibeeeefa! Wooo a woo a wooa-woo!’ could dampen our spirits.
Landed and about 9:45 their time, and were greeted by overcast sky. By the time we had reached our hotel it had all cleared though and after waiting about an hour for all of our rooms to be sorted we thought we were ready to go...
Unfortunately, we were wrong. It would seem the heavy handed baggage staff at Gatwick were a little too brutal with my bag and my combination lock was broke. We had to wait another hour for a man to come up with a circular saw to cut through it.
Once he had we were ready to go, we went for a walk around San An until about 6pm before heading down to the sunset strip for a few bottles and to watch the sun set from Cafe Mambo. The sun went down at about 9:15 in the end, and we left to get some dinner from a nice little Chinese place.
Then we headed back to our place to get ready for our first night out. This was a Water Party @ Es Paradise, with Dj Sammy
To be honest I was looking forward to it, I’m not really a fan of Dj Sammy, but he is one of the very few dance artists my mate knew, so I agreed to go, I knew we’d have fun no matter what.
Now, I wish I could sit here and tell you he was absolutely ****, and played generic cheesy trance. but do you know what? He wasn’t and he didn’t! It was commercial Electro house and trance yes, but no cascada in sight.
His beat matching was surprisingly good too, not **** ups to be heard.
We left at about 5:30 in the end, my legs aching and eye’s rolling from exhaustion.
Thursday - We woke up at 1:00 today, I felt a little rough around the edges at first but after a breakfast/Lunch at a Beachside cafe I felt fine...
After Breakfast/Lunch We went back to our hotel to sunbathe by the pool till the sun went down. Then at around 9 we found a rep to buy tickets for Cream@Amnesia with Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond and Eddie Haliwell. €50’s they cost.
Then we went off to dinner at The Curry Club, Lovely food. I had a Chicken tikka masala, and my friend had a Korma (We’re adventurous, I know.
).
Then It was back to the hotel to get ready and have some pre-party drinks. We were ready by about 12 so decided to go down to the bar for a few drinks as the last coach to the club didn’t leave till 2:00... However, we ended up getting talking to some girls and didn’t realise the time until 1:40.
By the time we made it to the bar it was 2:10... So a taxi it was. €10’s each and we made it to cream for 2:30.
Once we got inside cream I had what I can only describe as THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE, seriously, it was awesome. Ferry Corsten was amazing, Above & Beyond were amazing, and Eddie Haliwell is now officially my hero.
I’ve never raved so hard in my entire life, didn’t even buy a drink an it felt like the 4 hours we were in there (it shut at 6:30) were about 20 minutes.
Once we got outside we were flocked around by a bunch of illegal cab drivers offering to drive us back for €20’s each, however wer managed to talk them down to €10 each and then found another group of 2 to share with us so it was €8 each.
On the way home in the cab my mate sat in the front, he kept falling asleep and his head was flopping on to the driver... Much to the amusement of us in the back.
Friday – We woke up on Friday again at about 1:00, no Hangover in sight though, Mostly because we danced (and sweated :x) all of the alcohol out.
As usual we went for a breakfast at one of the little cafes then went for a walk around the markets to see what they had. Then we went for a few pints by the pool back at our apartments.
A pretty un-eventful day to be honest, we found a rep at about 6:00 and got our tickets for Manumissions @ Privilege , then headed off for dinner at Pizzaria David’s. It was easily the best Pizza I have ever had. Fresh ingredients prepared and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend it.
We then headed back our apartments and got ready, listened to some music and got a bit tipsy, before heading off to Bar M for some drinks before the coach arrived.
As we queued inside the bar we got talking to some rather posh girls who were rather worried about the club being dirty, as they had heard it would be. We gave them a bit of a ribbing for this but they took it all in good humour, bless ‘em.
Once the bus turned up we jumped on and off we went. My mate was lucky enough to be sitting behind a broken chair though, of which the back kept falling on his legs.
After a short journey we were there, as we walked to the entrance we saw a girl getting stretchered out by paramedics. Her eyes were rolling all over the place. It was not a pretty sight.
This was the first evidence (Apart from being offered a few times) we saw of the drug culture on the island.
Once we got to the doors the staff was very quick and professional. We were inside within 10 minutes.
Now, I had heard Privilege is big, but wow, it is HUGE!
Well, well, well, what to say about Manumissions. It was everything I was told it was, but nothing like I was expecting... All at the same time. To put it bluntly, it’s a head ****.
Midgets on Trannys shoulders, Weird news broadcasts suddenly appearing on screens, and fake money and silly string being thrown/sprayed at the crowd.
If I’m honest, I wouldn’t go again. It was too weird, but I’m glad I did go as it was like nothing I’ve ever experienced.
After Manumissions we went outside and jumped in to a cab... Couldn’t be bothered with waiting for the coach. We arrived home at around 7:00.
Saturday – The first time of the Holiday I felt truly tired we eventually got up at about 3:00.
We went straight down to the hotel bar and got some food and then I had a bit more sleep on a sun lounger, while my mate went for a swim and did whatever he did.
A bit later a Rep dropped by and sold us 2 Tickets for Hed Kandi @ El Divino, while we were talking to her, we asked how we get there and she sorted us out with 2 other people to share a cab with. Apparently you get your cab money back at the door if you have 3 or more people.
This is another night which we were mainly going to for my mate as he likes his commercial dance. I’d heard the club was beautiful though, so I was looking forward to experiencing it.
We went for dinner at about 8:00 at a bar in San An (I can’t remember the name...), then we headed down to the Sun set strip and bought some bottles from a shop to sit on the beach outside Cafe Mambo. Beautiful, as always!
We got back to our Hotel at about 10:00 and got ready, with our usual warm up bottle of vodka. Then we went down to the hotel bar to wait for the people we were sharing the taxi with... I think we were a bit late though, so we missed them. We eventually left at about 2:00 and decided to jump in a cab anyway to save time.
Once we arrived at El Divino, we queued up for about 10 minutes before getting in. It was already quite busy, and the cheesy house was playing.
If I’m honest, this was probably the third best night of the holiday, the atmosphere was great and I loved the live drums and Sax, even if the music wasn’t exactly my preferred type.
It did get quite busy but we found room to dance and had a great time. We left at about 6:00 and shared a taxi back with some nice American girls, we had a nice chat with them on the way home even if they were confused by some of our terms.
We fell in to bed at about 7:00 in the end and set our alarms for 11:00, so we could be up for Space.
