My Ibiza Story (July 21-27)

PRELUDE:

Having only spent a measly (but magnificent) 24 days on the magical white isle previous to this trip (06,07,08), and having been away for 3 whole summers (I was planning on coming out to work the season in 09 but ended up knocking up my ex instead, so that put all holiday plans on hold) I had made it my number 1 priority to make it back this year, it didnt look promising though as I was out of work at the start of the year and I thought I was going to go another year with a boring ibiza-less summer, however in April my fortunes changed I found work and we promptly booked our flights, followed by hotel a few weeks later..

This trip I was being accompanied by 2 other lads ('A' & 'J') both Ibiza virgins but we had done countless club nights and numerous festivals together, they are both seasoned ravers so I knew I wouldn't end up either on my own or having to look after them..

We booked our flights with Monarch and stayed at the S'anfora Azuline hotel in San Antonio, I had previously stayed in the Poniente Playa which was a decent hotel but had shot up in price, and Central Park Apts which im sure most of you know are an an absolute hole... The Sanfora was the cheapest option we could find, the price included Bed & Breakfast (we never made breakfast) and turned out actually to be a pretty decent hotel for what we needed it for.

Our flight wasn't until 10pm from Manchester, I was in work at 6 that morning and had planned to get a afternoon nap in before we set off, i did my last minute packing after work then tried to get some shut eye, however the excitement was just to much and I didn't get a singe wink. So, tired but very very giddy we set off around 7ish, 'A's girlfriend gave us a lift to the airport. We arrived to no que at the check in, which was a pleasant surprise, just a small group of girls all wearing matching 'Ibiza 2012' t-shirts, usually i hate that but most of them were very easy on the eye so i let them off :) We flew through check in and hit the bar, as you do, a few pints down us and it was time to board. The flight was like a morgue, we were even warned by the air stewardess before we took off not to make excessive noise, the girls sat in the row behind us agreed with me that it was the most miserable flight to Ibiza they had ever been on. Poor form Monarch... anyway we knocked back a few vodka redbulls before landing around 1.30 local time!!!

Anyway, that's enough with the boring stuff, the scene is set but its getting late...... (Full review to follow)

Apologies for the delay, I had planned to write this instalment yesterday morning but as those of you with kids will know, having a schedule is pretty pointless…

Saturday 21st/ Sunday22nd

Our cases were pretty much first onto the carousel (makes a pleasant change, mine is usually the very last one) so we grabbed them and headed to the taxi queue, politely refusing the hundreds of illegal taxi offers we received, the queue was very short and we arrived at our hotel within 45 minutes of landing. Checked in and dumped our cases in the room before heading out for a few drinks. The first bar we came to was Linekers, in my previous 3 trips I had never been in before, and now I know why, 6 Euros for a pint and it was full of boozed up chavs (now 25 this is really not my scene anymore) there was a bit of a kick off when some lad had his cap knocked off his head, we had 1 drink in there and left (an didn't go back)

One bar I knew wouldn't let us down was Tropi in the west end, trance being my music love, it is in my opinion the best bar in the west end, however as previously mentioned that whole west end scene just isn't for me anymore (we'll be staying in playa den bossa next year) hoards of people far to drunk stumbling around, PRs hanging off you to try and get you into a bar, I understand its part of the way the island works but I just cant be doing with all that anymore. Anyway as we walked into Tropi, as expected the DJ was hammering out the trance, infact the first tune was Sean Tyas – Lift one of my all time faves  we each got a Vodka Redbull and sat and enjoyed the tunes, after a couple I decided to quickly run up to The Boozer, in my previous trips this had become our starting point every night, and we had become good friends with John the owner, however having had 3 years away I wasn't sure if he would remember me, anyway as I walked up I could see him talking to someone at the front door, he spotted me and recognised me straight away which I thought was nice, we shared a hug and he poured me a Vodka Redbull and we chatted for 15 minutes or so, would have been longer but he was closing for the night. Headed back to the lads in Tropi for another drink by this time I was pretty hammered, not being a big vodka drinker, so we decided to head back to the hotel, stopping for a (very disgusting) butty from the petrol station on the way, I think it was around 4.30.

SUNDAY:
We had decided previously that we would all set our alarms for 10am so that we wouldn't sleep in and miss any of the day, so we all woke up bright and early, my head was in bits after hammering the vodka but we showered and headed off for some much needed breakfast, It was a hot day but there were far to many clouds in the sky for my liking, but to start with the sun was shining (this wouldn't last) We headed into Itaca for some breakfast, again this is another bar I had never visited in my previous trips, not quite sure why as its pretty decent and it became our main watering hole for the week. Full English for 5 Euros, you cant complain, I now you can get them cheaper elsewhere but I don't trust them side street cafes, food poisoning was not on my to do list this year  we polished off the breakfast and hit the beach opposite. Im more of a poolside sunbather myself, sand just gets everywhere and I cant stand it but I was outvoted on this occasion. We had been there for all of about 30 seconds before we were approached by the first ticket sellers. We were of to Judgement Sundays that night so turned down everyone as no one was selling tickets for that, you get funny looks and a few sarcastic when you say your going to Eden for Judgement, Trance seems to be a bit of a dirty word in Ibiza these days, but I absolutely love it and no amount of mocking was going to stop us from heading the Eden that night (even though it's a quite rubbish club) after about 90 minutes on the beach and a quick dip in the sea the sun disappeared behind what looked like a never ending cloud so we I decided id give the lads a quick tour of San An. We walked round for a bit and ended up outside Sun Sea Bar, we decided we would head in there for a bit as the sun had popped out from behind a cloud. Ordered a Coronita and paid 5 Euros for a sun bed (bloody scandalous) and sat down just as the sun disappeared again. We had a few drinks in their and a dip in the pool. I got in touch with Kelly a I (kind of) know who is working out there who had previously said she would meet us for a drink at some point, we arranged to meet later that night. We left Sun Sea and walked round past Mambos , it was far to early to stop and enjoy the sunset so we went back Itaca for a few drinks. Coronita is the perfect holiday tipple and was going down like water, so I ended up getting a bit tipsy.
Next on our to do list was to sort supplies for the week, through the magic of twitter I had been given the number of a lad who I was told would sort us out, gave him a call and he did just that, met him in the west end for a not so inconspicuous exchange, and we were sorted for the week.
We headed back to the room, stopping for a KFC (a decision I was not happy with but was out voted again) and buying our Judgement Sundays tickets on the way, and picked up a couple Koppabergs for the room as we got ready for the night. We headed back to Itaca (told you we were there a lot) for yet more Coronitas, 5 for 15 Euros in a big ice bucket was a decent offer, so we had 1 each and sat and did some people watching as the masses walked by. Kelly then came and met us we had a good chat; she was working for Hed Kandi and had done a bit of DJing on the Electronic sessions boat party, which she told us had been cancelled due to low numbers. I don't actually know her that well having only really met he a couple of times and spoke to her on facebook on a few occasions but she decided that she would come to J.S with us.
We went next door to Ibiza Rocks bar for the pre party, it was pretty quiet in their but we enjoyed the short sets from Jules & Ferry, grabbing a picture with them as they finished there respective sets, Downed a couple of Vodka red bulls and a shot of something quite horrific. We headed into Eden at about 12.45, now I don't buy into this view that you should never get to a club before 2 oclock, but on this occasion for this night I did think it was a bit to early. Kelly stayed behind to chat to some friends and told us she would meet us in there later on.
We got a voucher for buy one get one free drinks as we walked in which was decent, however I had spent all my money by this point. Tristan D was spinning when we arrived and as expected the club was pretty dead, he dropped Porter Robinson - Language as his last tune, it was played 3 times that night & would become the tune of the holiday, its absolutely everywhere at the minute and its pretty awesome. Next on was Max Fishler, he played in the cube at the other end of the club and we found a great spot on a step next to a podium, Where we stayed for the duration. I had no idea who this guy was (this was part of the reason I didn't want to go into Eden early) but his set was really really good, he dropped a load of top drawer tunes, Norin & Rad – Retrograde being my personal highlight. Now this is where my memory kind of disappears Red Rockstars will do that to you if you've spent the whole day drinking. I cannot remember a single thing from Ferry Corstens set, I know he played Dash Berlins mashup of ‘Man on The Skyfire' (which is an absolute tune) as I have a video of it, but other than that nothing, however I was later told it was good. The only thing I can recall is talking to a very pretty Irish girl, who's name for the life of me I cannot remember. Being absolutely ruined I have no idea what I said to her but we must have been getting on quite well as I spoke to her on a few separate occasions, I probably should have gone in for the kiss earlier but my pulling techniques aren't what they used to be having only recently come out of a long term relationship, and the fact I was pretty smashed. Anyway I continued to dance away to the tunes, turned around 5 minutes later only to see ‘J' had beat me to it, not happy I marched over to him gave him a dig and told him I had been chatting to her all night, he apologised an left her alone but by that time the damage was done. At some point during the night I met back up with Kelly, we shared my last Rocktar and had a brief boogie to Jules, who had now taken over the decks, his sets have become a lot less cheesy since he left radio 1, but why oh why does he need a voice sample in his sets ‘Judgement Sundays make some noise' and some other crap that there was just no need for. That being said, from what I can remember, which isn't very much, I enjoyed his set, his tune ‘the attack' is very good and went down very well.
I headed back to the other two and we raved hard for the rest of Jules set, I had to have a sit on the podium as the second instalment of my Rockstars hit me hard and my legs gave up on me, had a little chat to the irish girl again, who I had noticed was completely hammered now, myself being in a similar state I thought sod it and went in for the kill, not usually into pulling girls my mates have pulled earlier but I had put a lot of leg work into it and she was very fit, not my finest moment I must admit but, hey who cares I'm in Ibiza. She later disappeared not to be seen again that night but my legs had now decided to work again so the raving continued.
My legs are always the first to go and I spent the last hour of the night ‘sit down raving' the spot we were in all night was perfect for this as we were still in the crowd so could soak up the atmosphere still, which I thought was the best atmosphere id seen at J.S. I got talking to a lovely lass called Annabell, who I think was from Sunderland, or somewhere in the north east. We chatted for ages about random crap, a bit of flirting as well, as you do, and she said she was heading to a few of the same nights we were doing that week (ASOT & Cream) so we planned to meet up in privilege the following night before she headed back to her hotel.
Shogun was on last, but by the time he had finished going B2B with Ferry he only got about a 20 minute slot to himself. As the night neared its conclusion a group of girls came and started dancing near us, I don't like to judge but they clearly wernt familiar with the club scene and looked so out of place and were quite drunk, one girl clearly took a liking to ‘J' and I watched in amazement as, rather than try and talk to him, she stood about a foot away and just stared at him for about 5 minutes straight, very strange behaviour. Anyway Shogun dropped ‘Skyfire' as the last tune of the night and we left when the music stopped. First in last out  brilliant first club night, the best J.S iv been to. We stopped off to purchase some much needed water before heading back to the hotel, must have been past 7am by the time we finally got to sleep.

Monday 23rd

This is probably going to go down as my best ever day in Ibiza.

It started with the early alarms but due to the heaviness of the previous night we ignored them and stayed in bed until about 11. By the time we were out of the room it was closer to midday I think, we were all a little worse for wear as expected but none of us in to much of a state, we headed to Itaca again for a breakfast, devoured that whilst chatting about the antics of the night before, ‘A' had a good laugh when he heard the story of me and ‘J' pulling the same girl, I still stand by reasons and I don't care  I tried to piece together the hour and a half that I lost but it turns out the other two had a similar problem with memory loss. Having apparently done quite a bit of mingling during the previous night we each had a different experience of J.S which provided a lot of talking points (apparently I disappeared for about an hour at one point) whilst the others concentrated on their shape throwing for the duration. Once we had finished with our tales from the night we purchased our tickets for the Driftwood Boat Party, something I was very much looking forward to, having only ever done the 6am shipwrecked boat party before I was looking forward to a trance sunset party, Jon O'bir, Vicky Devine & Ferry Tayle on the line up. Once we bought our tickets we headed back to the hotel and chilled by the pool for the afternoon, small world that it is there were a few lads from our home town staying at our hotel, I didn't really know them but ‘A' did so we sat and chatted with them for a while, they had done Space the night before and a few of them had had zero sleep so were looking a bit rough round the edges. We sat in the sun catching the rays after the cloudy disappointment of yesterday until about 3.30 then headed up to the room to get ready for the boat party. A quick change and we were back at Itaca for the pre party at around 4.30, not before the lads stopped at KFC again, I was having none of this and kindly declined the offer of eating crap fast food again, im not one for fine cuisine but if I was going to eat it had to be something decent, I then slapped a KFC ban on the lads for the rest of the holiday. So we arrived at Itaca but the pre party didn't start until 5 so we each grabbed a bucket of Coronita and sat in the sun chatting to a girl selling tickets out on the front. We noticed the poster for Colors (the night we had planned to go to the following day) had no Lange or Super8 & Tab on it, we asked the girl what was going on and apparently the night hadn't been doing to well, so they chalked a few DJs off the lineups, this was a bit of a disappointment as we weren't prepared to go to a night that was dead and had half the lineup missing, but we decided to worry about that tomorrow instead. At 5 o'clock we headed upstairs in Itaca for the Driftwood pre party, we were pretty much the first ones there but the DJ was playing some decent tunes so we sat and enjoyed the tunes and drank our beers as the place filled up.
Ferry Tayle was sat opposite us as we walked in but I ignored the urge to go over for a chat and a picture straight away as I didn't want to seem like some sort of DJ stalker. I drank my beers plus a mojito and 2 extra pints so by the time it was time to head for the boat I was feeling pretty drunk, had a quick chat with Jon O'bir before we left (Iv got to know him on a pretty primitive basis over the last few years from attending a bunch of his gigs a few years back) requested a tune for his set ‘Andrew Bayer ft Molly Bancroft – Keep your secrets (MS54 Remix)' I know he had been playing it in his sets all year and it's a right vocal treat, he agreed and said he would play it. Think I might be starting to ramble on a bit here so ill cut to the chase.
The boat party was awesome – was on a decent sized boat but not the biggest one id ever been on, and was pretty full. It took me a good 30 minutes to find my sea legs, being pretty intoxicated didn't help as I tried to dance to the tunes, ‘A' & ‘J' didn't seem to have any such problems with it, but I had drank much more than they had and found it a real challenge to dance, even fell into a girl at one point (this would become a regular occurrence for the day) apologised to her, it actually became quite a good conversation starter  The boat party really started going off when Vicky Devine came on the decks, she dropped a bunch of awesome tunes, the highlight being a ‘Everything but the girl – missing' remix, think it was Greg Downeys but I could be wrong. Jon O'bir was next, he has changed his style since the last time I seen him play, plays much more progressive these days, but he still smashed it. Theres something about boat parties that are really special, the atmosphere was brilliant, the sun was blazing, beer was flowing and the tunes were pumping, I was having the time of my life. Someone decided it would be a good idea to do the whole sit down during the breakdown of a track and jump up as it drops, which was a good laugh, the whole boat joined in. As Jon's set neared its end he dropped the track I requested, such a great summer tune, me and ‘A' had a right good sing along to it and I attempted to video the moment, it didn't turn out to well and your can hear my very out of tune singing throughout, so it wont be getting uploaded anywhere anytime soon  For his last tune Jon dropped ‘Above & Beyond – On My Way To Heaven' and once he mixed it in he ran out of the Dj box around to us and had a good sing and dance to it, what a top fella, Really great moment.
Ferry Tayle played the last set, his style is right up my street, 140bpm uplifting bangers, I loved every second of it, however with about 30 minutes to go my legs inevitably gave up and I had to go do some sit down raving at the back of the boat, not before I got a great video of Ferry dropping ‘Flying Blue'. As the boat headed back to shore I tried my hand at a bit of seagull feeding with some crisps holding them up and letting the bird fly in and take it out of my hand, everyone cheered each time the it took the crisp (and a chunk of my finger/thumb) was fun  The boat pulled into the harbour and one of the greatest 3 hour portions of my life was over. I was buzzing as were ‘A' & ‘J' from the whole experience, we quickly headed back to the hotel to get changed and grab our essentials for the night ahead. We headed back to Tropi (via Itaca to buy our ASOT tickets) as we were told on the boat that's where the after party was taking place, but when we got there it was pretty dead, I ran back up to the boozer to say hello to John, he made me some sort of cocktail, it was horrendously strong and I only managed to drink half of it, it absolutely knocked me for six though and I started to feel its affects straight away, I headed back to Tropi for one last Vodka before heading down to Ibiza Rocks bar to wait for the free bus to privilege. I was really drunk by this point, much more than I care to be before heading into a club, so drunk infact that I started dozing off on the bus to the club, another moment im not proud of. We arrived at Privilege around 12.30, I went straight to splash my face with water to wake me up, sank a rockstar and headed out to the dancefloor where Jochen Miller was spinning. He is a top Dj and producer and played a really good warmup set, the place filled up pretty quickly and he had the crowd bouncing from the start. Cosmic Gate were on next, unfortunately as was the case the previous night my night goes pretty much black for the next 2 hours, the rockstar kicked in, add that to even more ale than I drank the previous day it was never going to be a good mix. I remember Cosmic Gate playing ‘Be Your Sound' as I remember me and ‘A' arm in arm singing to it, other than that they could have played anything, I just don't know (I learnt my lesson and have a full and proper memory of all the remaining club nights) Oh I also remember in my excitement jumping right into some girl again, I apologised immeasurably, then no more than 2 minutes later did exactly the same thing, felt like a right tit. I decided to vacate the dancefloor for a short time to sort my head out and stood at the back leaning against the railing of the pool.
Markus Schulz was on next, he was headlining as their was no Armin due to it being his daughters birthday, the first half hour of his set is a bit of a blur but I started to come round about this time and the remaining hour of his set was brilliant, highlights being when he dropped ‘Language' ‘Komha – The Dark Knight' ‘sandro silva & quintino – epic' (which come to think of it, Jules dropped the previous night, proper banging tune) and his track with Justine Suissa ‘Perception' which is one of my faves. Brilliant set overall and I was really in the mood now, loving every minute and the atmosphere was great. I did notice however that the whole of the club wasn't open, I guessed that's because there was no Armin so they were expecting reduced numbers.
Dash Berlin came on after Schulz, I was really excited about this set, his sets from ASOT550 etc had all been brilliant, and I was really turning to the more progressive & vocal side of trance. He didn't disappoint, his ‘dashups' are mostly brilliant, ‘Man On the Skyfire' being a personal favourite, he also had a couple of Coldplay remixes in their (I'm not usually a fan of chart/mainstream vocals being used in trance sets, but I make a few exception and Coldplay are one of them) ‘fix you' had the crowd singing in unison, it was brilliant. His energy behind the decks was awesome too, he was fist pumping, hand clapping, standing on the DJ booth with his arms up, writing messages on his ipad and running to the crowd throwing tshirts to the screaming masses, seeing a DJ with that much energy really transfers to the crowd I feel, gives it an extra edge, was the set of the holiday to that point and I took about 10 videos and used up half of the memory in my new, previously empty iPhone.
Last on was Tydi, a DJ id never seen before, I only managed about 10 minutes of his set on my feet, I had done a lot of raving that day and my legs were knackered, found a seat and sat down enjoying the tunes, he dropped ‘Gareth Emery – Concrete Angel' which was a pleasant surprise. Didn't see the girls I was chatting to the previous night, but obviously privilege is massive so the chances of bumping into them were quite slim.
We left for the disco bus at about 6am, sat and waited at the bus stop for about 20 minutes and it still hadn't arrived, by this point I was lying on the pavement on the verge of falling asleep. Then a lad pulled over and offered us a lift for 10 euros, he was just a worker on his Way back to San An so we jumped in, he dropped us off at the petrol station about 200 meters away from our hotel where we bought some water and headed back to our room, again it must have been 7am by the time we settled down for some sleep.

Loving this review so far. I'm massively looking forward to doing the Driftwood boat party when I go as I've never done a boat party in all my visits to the island.

Bring on the next installment :)

I would defo recommend Driftwood, was a brilliant experience, run by some top people, great vibe, and most importantly some really good lineups, youll love it..

Tuesday 24th

Alarms again went off at 10am but I didn't even attempt to lift my head off the pillow until about 11.30, the others followed pretty much straight after, considering the state I had got my self into the previous night I was feeling pretty fresh when I eventually woke up, so yet again we headed off to Itaca for breakfast at about midday. Over breakfast we pondered what to do that evening as we had decided that we definitely weren't going to Colors if it was going to be dead. I suggested the Pukka Up boat party followed by free entry into Carl Cox at Space, but the other 2 weren't to keen on Carl Cox (their dance music roots both being House before I converted them into trance) the only other viable option was Together at Amnesia, where Axwell & Chase and Status were headlining the rooms. I was out voted into going to this but didn't mind as I actually quite like Axwell and the whole SHM house vibe (even if it a bit to cheesy/mainstream for some) however I was a bit gutted as I still hadn't ever been to Space!!
We decided just to chill out buy the pool all day so headed back there for the afternoon, sank a few Koppabergs in the process but all in all a pretty un eventful afternoon.
I have no idea what the exact time was but it was quite early when we headed up to the room to get changed for the night. At this point I started to feel a bit ill, I thought that some food would sort the problem straight out so we headed out, not KFC, but to one of the restaurants by the fountains, not exacty fine cuisine but its decent enough food for very little money, think I had a spag bol. Still feeling pretty awful we went back to Itaca for a few beers. I had about 3 mouthfuls of a pint of estrella before deciding that I was too ill to drink. Made the decision to head back to the room to try and get an hours sleep to see if that would sort me out. Headed straight back and tried to get my head down (I think I should note here that I had drank very little water over the previous 24 hours, and decided that dehydration was the issue) woke up after about an hours sleep not really feeling any better and text the lads telling them I would meet up with them back at Itaca, not 20 seconds had passed after sending the text that they walked into our hotel room. We all chilled there for another hour or so before heading back out. I grabbed a large bottle of water and drank that as we headed up to the boozer to see John. We walked up one of the side streets rather than the west end itself to avoid getting harassed by the PRs. Arrived at the boozer still feeling pretty ill but I decided to order a jug of cocktail (not my wisest decision) We sat outside chatting to one of the PR girls for the boozer, who for the record, was absolutely stunning though I cannot remember her name. Got about half way through my drink when we realised we hadn't bought our tickets for the night, the other 2 ran down to one of the outlets to pick them up and I sat and waited at our table, still feeling quite ill I suddenly felt quite faint, jumped up and hastily made my way to the toilet where upon reaching the cubicle door pretty much passed out, I remember sitting in a heap on the floor, sweating buckets. Must have been there for a good 15 minutes before I made it to my feet, splashed my face with cold water and headed back to our table. Explaining to the lads what had happened I gave serious consideration to sacking Amnesia off and going back to the hotel to bed, the lads told me in no uncertain terms to man up, by this time it was after midnight so we headed down to get the bus, purchasing another large bottle of water on the way, I drank the entire contents of it as we arrived at the Amnesia bus outside pukka up bar. We jumped on that and I started to feel a little better as we made our way to the club, there was a huge group of scousers sat behind us abusing a large amount of ketamine on the way. We arrived there about 1am and there were already a good number of people in there. No idea who was the first DJ on however there was an MC on the mic (not the kind you get on hardcore heavens dos but equally as annoying) he was chirping up talking crap over most break downs an mixes, couldn't understand what he as saying half the time. This was putting a dampener on what was a pretty decent set. The DJ/act had 4 of them on stage, though only 1 (a bloke with a David Guetta look/vibe going on) seemed to be doing any actual DJing, one other was messing about on an ipad whilst 2 others didn't seem to do anything at all. I decided that I was now feeling well enough to partake in the consumption of a rockstar. The set continued to get the growing crowd pumping, a few deadmau5 tunes thrown in for good measure, including ‘hi friend' which is one of my favourites by him, not even the annoying MC was ruining it now, and I was starting to come up. Now this is where the night took a bit of a u-turn, the MC (if anyone knows who it was please could they tell me so I can abuse him on twitter lol) a bloke with knee length dreadlocks, who I think was American but could be wrong, had been given a slot where he was going to perform some of his own material… Holy **** it was awful, he performed about 3 tunes where he was rapping over some dubstep, then had a go at singing in one track, it completely killed the crowd and my buzz. For his final performance he rapped, again over some dubstep, in what I can only describe as a Caribbean accent. It was truly cringeworth, the crowd by this time had had enough, no one was dancing, many were booing and a lot of shouts of ‘youre ****, get off' and the like were heard. His performance must have gone on for 20plus minutes, when he finally finished the David Guetta lookalike got back on the decks and span a few more tunes, the crowd started to come alive again but no where near as up for it as they had been 30 minutes ago. The scouse group from the bus ended up pitching up next to us as his set ended, a few of the girls were a bit worse for wear, infact pretty ruined, stumbling all over the place knocking into everyone, so we decided to move (got a great spot infront of the podium in the middle of the dancefloor)
The opening set ended, and Axwell was on next, his intro was pretty awesome, the words 'Amnesia are you Ready' repeated and got faster and faster for a good 2 minutes before dropping into ‘shm - greyhound' I can honestly say that I have never seen a crowd go so mental as it did when that dropped, it was unreal, soething ill never forget and I have a brilliant video of it on my phone. Immediately I felt on top of the world again, going full throttle with my dancing. His set was pretty good all in all, mashup central, but loads of good vocals the 3 of us had a good sing song to. I ended up having a really good night, not taking the music all that seriously, but still going pretty hard. Drugs without alcohol is a strange feeling, I had so much energy but didn't feel wrecked and remember the entire night, and lasted much longer on my feet than usual.
He dropped a few obvious SHM tunes & remixes in his set, including ‘coldplay – every teardrop is a waterfall' ‘Miami to Ibiza' etc also his own remix of ‘In My Mind' which I attempted to get a video of, however ‘A' knocked my phone out of my hand about a minute in, fortunately it was retrieved unharmed. PHEW!! He also dropped an awesome mashup of ‘sandro silva – epic' which I went particularly mental to. I will have to name and shame Axwell on one point though, the one downer on his set was he dropped a ‘Gotye' remix, (not the levels mashup that Paris Hilton so famously attempted to mix) theres no place for that. Danced to it at the time, but wasn't impressed in hindsight.
When Axwell was done with a overall impressive 2 hours set, Thomas Gold took over, I knew exactly what to expect from this, Electro/house tunes with a pop/chart vocal in every track, and shock horror I was right. Some of them worked, most didn't, it was pretty cheesy all in all but being under the influence I still had a good jig to the tunes. At one point we decided to head into the main room to see what was going on in there, Knife Party were on and as I walked in it seemed there was a fight going on in the middle of the dancefloor, as I got closer I realised it was infact a mosh pit. WTF??? To electro house?? I was stunned. I stood there and watched in amazement as they dropped ‘internet friends'. Crazy scenes (Iv been to pendulum DJ set gigs in the past and there hasn't been any of these antics, but apparently its ok to do it to electro in Ibiza) again, stunned. The electro quickly turned to dubstep and that was our queue to leave, we headed back into the terrace for another quick look, the place was still very busy, ended up leaving just after 6. The bus to San Antonio was parked up as we left, which was handy, so we jumped on that and headed back, chatting to a few lads who lived in the next town to us on the way. Discussed the absolute shambles that was the MC during the first act, and then had a good laugh as one of them told us he was a big Avicii fan (I tend not to judge people on their music tastes, but that goes out the window when it comes avicii, cannot stand the fella, or his music)some mocking did occur
Jumped off the bus and walked back to our hotel, finally getting into bed around the 6.30 hour I think…

Wednesday 25th

By the time we ventured out of our room it was closer to 13.00 hours. We were all struggling with getting up the later the week went on, I didn't have this pronlem in my last visits, my body just cant take the punishment anymore. Back to Itaca yet again for breakfast (you think we'd be bored of the same breakfast by now, but apparently not) Afterwards we headed for a walk around the bay and had a look over the fence into Ocean Beach Club. I d heard some very good things about it, and looking at it, it looked pretty impressive. Unfortunately Wednesday is the only day they don't have a pool party however On the entrance is stated it was only 10Euros to get in, we decided that wed spend the day in there, Quickly ran back to our hotel to grab some bits then went in. 10Euros was indeed the entrance fee but they wanted another 10 for the privilege of using a sunbed, I wasn't going to bother with that luxury but the others went ahead and got one, so as not to look like a cheap skate, I did to. There not being an event on that day it was pretty quiet but very relaxing, it was the hottest day of the holiday s far so we settled down for an afternoon of sunbathing, taking a regular dip in the pool to cool off. There was a DJ spinning a few tunes, firstly a woman who, quite frankly, couldn't mix a cake. But her tune selection was pretty decent. Then a bloke, whose tunes weren't as good but at least it didn't sound like a train crash between every tune. One surprise added bonus of the visit was the fact we could get free wifi, the first time we had it all week. So checked some emails and sent some tweets during the day. All in all very relaxing, had a couple of drinks but not too many as the prices were extortionate, including a 15L bottle of champers for 48k, no thanks. Before we left we found out that the following day the pool party was hosted by Garlands, living just 20 minutes from Liverpool we are regular visitors to the club back home, so decided that we would give that a go the day after, however the lads decided that meant we should not go to a club that night as to be fresh for an all day sesh tomorrow. We were planning to go to ‘Be' at Space that night (I really wanted to see Micheal Woods) and wasn't really up for ‘a quiet one' so tried my best to talk them into still going out.
We stayed at Ocean until about 7.30, then headed back to the room to get changed, ate at a different restaurant on the front and pondered what to do that evening. We noticed a couple of workers stood outside the restaurant holding wristbands, I went over to see what the deal was, he told me they were in fact for space, in free before 11, 15Euros before 12 and 5Euros off admission after. Grabbed 3 off him and headed back to the table, getting in free did sound appealing as our funds were running much lower than expected having gone pretty wild the first 3 days, but in before 11, that sounded outrageous, it was around 9.30 at this point and we till hadn't eaten, we decided that option was out of the question. By the time we finished with our food it was pushing 11, after a few drinks we decided to not bother with Space (Gutted I still haven't been, that is definitely getting put right next year) and would reserve all our energy and money for the following day, which was Garlands and the mighty CREAM!!!!!
So in the end we just headed out for a few drinks, couple of jugs at the boozer, a mojito or two at Itaca and a couple of others elsewhere but I honestly don't know where exactly. Ended up getting back to the hotel around 3.30 a bit tipsy but not to drunk, All in all a pretty quiet day on the white isle. I cannot emphasise enough how devastated I am that we didn't go to Space!!!!

That's the only problem with Ibiza is having enough energy to do all the nights you want to do, it's an endurance test sometimes!

Well we only did 5 proper nights out there, the plan was to make every night a club night, however our wallets and bodies ended up having the final say...
