Van Life anyone? The 'bathroom situation' must be the main issue in the cold season.. Kudos to her

Good point JM. Had forgotten that. Do the cops care in winter? Or was she just lucky? She certainly seemed more concerned about whether she could smuggle her dog on to the ferry

I don't know if the cops care or not in winter, but when I see her washing her hair (with shampoo I presume?) in the middle of the nature, or tried to have a shower on the beach, I understand why the locals are fed up with vans...

And it's really, really financially risky :

Just to be clear, I wasn't advocating anyone breaking the law or contaminating the environment. I was however intrigued by what makes anyone do this by themselves in winter. The alternative travel lifestyle is seductive for some I guess. When we did the Pyrenees, Devon, Andalucia and Big Sur there were obviously a lot of rules. A different type of van and we stuck to official sites.

Well I know quiet a few people that has been living in van or caravan in Ibiza for many years but on private land , working for the locales and with a huge respect for the Island and it’s completely fine but then you have other peoples living in van , who stay for months or years , they don’t want to spend 1€ and they don’t care about anything ,Ibiza is not really the right place for van life, a van is for touring Australia or crossing Latin America, but in Ibiza? It doesn't make sense, there have been too many in recent years, most of the spots have been closed, they were mostly private land and the owners put big stones to block access, in general in winter they go to take a shower in one of the municipal swimming pool( I like swimming and in the winter I see many of them , especially in San Juan ) this winter there were less than previous years imo , on the other hand it's true that in Ibiza there is a lack of a legal place that could accommodate vans with amenities at a normal price but the island is small

The new law will change a lot of things...

True

+ big difference between people living in stationary vans and tourists. In my last 3 visits to Cala Llonga, SA bay and Es Canar, there was at least one very old (static) camper van in a bad rusting condition parked nearby with someone living inside. Initially I thought they might be hippies, but my guess is it might equally be related to poverty?

Obv that has nothing to do with the woman in this video. Diver thought she seemed rich but I dunno, I didn’t get that impression. She seemed a bit emotionally damaged to me, someone who does these videos to escape from her past and monetise the content. Whatever the ethics, it does take guts for a single woman to do this, esp in quiet spots

There probably is a bigger, separate debate to be had about whether Ibiza can still accomodate people unable or unwilling to stay in posh hotels or cruise ships, and people who generally lead alternative lifestyles?

i may have been a bit harsh or judged it wrongly.
Reminder to self not to post after beer and wine 😂

I just found a YouTube channel with a lot of old 16mm “home videos” from Ibiza. The channel has a huge amount of other stuff, but if you type “Kinolibrary Ibiza” into the YouTube search box, you’ll find a lot of video clips, DJ interviews and walkthroughs of the streets of Ibiza, from many decades ago. Here are a few picks of what’s on offer.

(Sorry if these have already been brought up here!)
