more opening reviews (continuous thread)

here's some more info, finally...

meganite opening - june 20

very enjoyable electronic music (by adam beyer and mauro picotto), obviously on the harder side, but it's not such a techno party as it was in earlier years - you get techno, electro and even techhouse. i guess this is all depending to guests. for the opening, it wasn't too busy unfortunately, but when i went back this wednesday for the 2nd one (with mauro again and john acquaviva), it was already much busier!

monza opening - june 21

i predict this will be the second-most-successful night at privilege this summer. it's just what people hear at the moment (i dare say minimal...) and their guests are great. mandy and troy pierce for the opening (amongst others). went back for a bit yesterday - the circoloco crew in the cocoloco (tania vulcano - jose de divina - tatto) and margaret dygas, barem (who did a f#*kin ace live act) and marco carola (who i missed due to...read on) went for it in the main room. and i love their artificial tent-roof they put in/over the main room. hard to explain, but it's really really nice.

renaissance opening - june 28

only arrived at pacha at 4am and john digweed was already playing. i thought "great, digger just began", but after an hour (a brilliant one IMO), he gave over to hernan cattaneo, who also played excellent. when i stumbled into morbyd (hi mate - hope you had a safe trip home), he told me that digweed already began at around 2am and that the first few hours were bit boring...at least this is how i understood you, mate. so maybe it wasn't such a bad thing turning up a bit late, because the rest of digweed's set was really cool. deep proggy stuff, sometimes with floating elements and always driving. still love this kinda stuff!!!

Opening of Made In Italy at Amnesia

Did anyone make it to the opening of Made in Italy at Amnesia with Sasha and Behrouz. Would love some reviews and pictures.

cream opening (=amnesia-opening, but not the official one) thursday, july 5

wow, that was strange and nice at the same time. on monday and tuesday (july 2 and 3) i've seen the first posters for the amnesia opening party on 07/07/07 so i thought "finally"! on wednesday (july 4) i suddenly also saw posters sayin made in italy will have their opening (at amnesia, of course) on friday, july 6 and i was like "what the heck??". and only on thursday, july 5 i also saw posters saying CREAM is opening on this very day (errr, night!), so we all were like YAY, let's go and have a look!!!

...we arrived at about 2am and indeed, already on the way to amnesia, we saw that finally, their big sky-light was working again. so yes, cream opening was happening that very night. above and beyond were playing in the very busy (although not rammed) main floor and afterwards ferry corsten continued getting us our first trance rush of this season...we loved it! eddie halliwell was on the lineup as well, but as we left early-ish again, we missed his set. i'm sure there will be some more reviews on this night. i am now looking forward to thursday night when PvD will play a 5hr+ set at cream!

matinée opening, saturday july 7

oh what shall i say...matinée just started in style. we arrived only at noontime (remember matinée is an afterhours???) and by then, the queues in front of space were quite big and the main terrace was packed when we finally got in. the discoteca wasn't too packed, but still nicely busy. and when they also opened the sunset terrace at 1pm, this one got very busy very quickly as well and this is the place where we danced all afternoon. it was a wicked party with great music, people went mad when knights of the jaguar and sun rising up were dropped (among the actual house and electro stuff) and the vibe climaxed when the sunset terrace dj (was it juanjo martin? it surely wasn't neither j.louis nor ior-dee, because by now i know how they look like) played that new remix of robert miles' "children" as last tune at 7pm, when space closed... (didn't anyone mention this will be a signature matinée tune for this summer? :spank:). the party then continued at "pure sugar beach", just on the beach near space, till about midnight. GREAT TO HAVE MATINÉE BACK!!!! :D:twisted:8)

stivi great reviews as always !!!

how long are u staying in Ibiza this summer? (it seems like forever and longer than before :p)

keep the vibe strong and alive bro!

8 weeks I believe is what he said to me when I saw him at WLS ... Lucky lucky man!

nostrum - just want to say that your reports of the opening nights of La Troya, Manumission and Cocoon parallel exactly how I felt! First time in Ibiza, just home from a 5 week trip and feeding off these forums for something to help cure the pain of being home! Cocoon especially was the best clubbing night of my life - the music, the vibe, the people - everything was beyond amazing.

Thanks for the great write-up!

there's just one last opening-review missing now and i'll post it soon...too tired and busy though now...

carl cox opening party @ space, july 17

alright, here we go - last opening party-review from me this season...

carl cox opening party at space, tuesday july 17

first of all, let me say that i've been a fan of this night already for a few years so surely this review will sound like an advertisement, but IMO the opening was also worth a positive opinion!

we missed the early stuff and only arrived at about 2am, when the angels of love were playing on the main terrace and green velvet was on inside. danced a bit on both floors, checked out the red box which was hosted by ibiza sonica and got back to the main terrace at 3am, where cox came on, presented fedde le grand and then FLG brought his electro-house stuff.

people loved it and we went inside because we knew we wouldn't have to wait long until carl cox himself would play. so at 3:30 the big black man came on and the floor was buzzing. i love the lasershow they do tuesday nights and everyone loves the icemachine in the mainfloor as well - yohoo!
this is a bit of a hazy pic, but it reflects the energy in the mainfloor.

for those who've never been to a carl cox night at space before, let me explain how it works. space already opens at 8pm this night. until midnight, only the sunset terrace is opened. first, the angels of love play there and from 11pm till close, cox drops a housey set on there. after that, the main terrace opens and inside as well. on the main terrace you often get a bit of drum and bass and house while inside, it's quite techy. inside, the guest begins and at about 3:30am, cox comes on for his second set and plays until the end.

ticketwise, the earliest birds go in for free. but that means you have to be there before 9pm! and then the price is 20€ until midnight (or 15€ if you have the flyer). and after midnight its 40€ (respectively 35€ with flyer).

so, that's it for the openings. whoa, already a lot of parties done. but looking at the august schedule, there will be a lot more waiting. i might do a mid-season report at some point, let's see. see you all soon guys! :D
