More clampdowns

Maybe they have a point after all, i mean if you were a local and had to witness every summer pilled up monkeys coming out of clubs wandering around out of their heads every other morning im sure it would get to you after a while,it's not as if clubs are closed for good they are still open all nite, and anyway there is always illegal Raves happening in secluded areas anyway which are as good as the rip off clubs.

Anyway it's IBIZA! It's the island specifically built for clubbing!

Would be a shame if they try and change it too much, like it says in the article, its known for its anything goes attitude

this may suprise you jonny me lad but I actually agree with you.......I was very disappointed last year by how blatant 'proper clubbers' were around normal holiday makers with children or locals. I think that they should cut all 'legal' clubs to a 6pm start and 6am finish (the demise of the space terrace between 1 and 6 would be missed but if it improved the relationship with the powers that be surely its a good thing for the income of the isle).

As for illegals, well they'll just go on as normal but more often than not they aren't in areas which are overpopulated with normals otherwise not many of them would go off!

That is the whole problem. It has been taken to the extreme by the blockheads. It's one thing the island being known for it's laid back way of life that originally appealed to the hippies. It's quite another when people expect to be able to do literally anything they please and remain above the law.

Read through some of the threads regarding the clampdowns and you will read about for eg; someone snorting coke from the pavement outside the shops in PDB and using "This is Ibiza I can do anything here" as an excuse when arrested.

A little more, taken from the Ibiza Sun:

Afternoon Opening
The councillor for tourism at the Town Hall of Ibiza, Vicente Ferrer, announced on Wednesday that his administration were looking at the possibility of restricting the opening hours of music bars and pubs. The clampdown on the so called "after-hours" bars has so far been universal from all of the municipalities. San Antonio and San Jose both recently announced new legislation which will prevent establishments from opening before 12 noon.
However, Ibiza Town is set to go a stage further and is hoping to soon unveil new regulations which will prohibit music bars from opening before late afternoon. Ferrer explained that he favoured these new regulations, and considered them appropriate for the capital. He claimed his administration had always tried to promote family and cultural tourism, and that having a music bar open at 10a.m. was simply not conducive to the type of tourism the municipality was aiming for.
His statements were followed several days later by promises to clean up binge drinking (botellon), and prostitution on the streets of the capital. The announcement was made by the councillor in charge of the police force, Ricardo Albin. He said fines of between €500 and €3,000 would be introduced to try and curb such antisocial behaviour which would also include graffiti vandals.

DC-10 Fears
The mayor of San Jose, Josep Mari Ribas, confirmed on Thursday his administration still had two cases pending against the club DC-10. Both concerned the overcrowding of the bar that can only officially allow 60 people inside. He said the situation could not be allowed to continue as it had been, and the bar would have to try and increase the maximum occupancy allowed, an increase he saw as "extremely difficult" due to the bar's location. It is inside the ses Salinas Natural Park, and Ribas confirmed it would be legally impossible to increase the capacity.
The bar will, from this year, have to obey new opening hours brought in by the Town Hall which will ensure it cannot open until 12p.m.
When asked if the current cases could result in the closure of the bar, Ribas confirmed it was not out of the question. However, even if the bar was to escape this threatened closure, its long term future is very much in doubt.

I think this is also sensible but if certain clubs are remote and away from the more densly populated areas I think it should be relaxed....It's also worth considering the long term goal of the government...

to be honest i think its all just a big fuss over nothing, i never go clubbing before mid afternoon anyway. Let the clubbers party when they need to(at night) and let the locals have some peace for a few hours in the day.

Ibiza wasn't specifically built for clubbing at all,the whole Rave/Dance Music scene despite first coming about in the mid to late 1980's didn't get massive in Ibiza until many years later, i have mates who were in Ibiza in 1992 and they said it was nothing like today (although 100 times better they said and id be inclined to believe them as well),sure there were people there but nothing on the scale to the people it attracts thesedays.

Anyway im sure the locals don't see their island as just being there for clubbing.;)

Anyway this can only be a good thing as what will spring from this will be illegal Raves in secluded caves and the likes where it'll either be free or a small donation, none of this rip off prices these money making machines like Space or DC10 charge.

Back to the underground is the way to go.

Yeah, sounds great, thousands of ravers destroying the historic beauty of the island because the big clubs are closed for a few hours. Whilst talking about rip off prices, Dublin is the biggest rip off city in the world, without question.

Have you ever heard of sarcasm Jonny! :?:

I am quite aware of the history of Ibiza ;)

unhappily, sarcasm doesn't translate via the written word, more by tone of voice.
