Development Hell, the publishing company behind The Word magazine, has promised to nurse struggling dance music magazine Mixmag back to health after buying it from Emap.

Publisher Jerry Perkins said he could not reveal the cost of the purchase, although it has been reported as a seven-figure deal.

He added: "We're delighted we've got it because it's an important magazine and it has been a prominent magazine on the dance scene.

Will this mean an increase in the number of "drug issues" from 8/12 to 11/12?

The publisher has pledged to "tidy it up a bit" but won't reveal what that means till January.

lets hope that the new owners give the mag a little tlc.

it's circulation has plummeted and it is pretty rubbish nowadays so here's hoping

Yeah, I subscribed for about 3 years but by the time I cancelled it the quality had nosedived. I don't mind there being a lot of stuff about drugs in it, it's more the tone that is irritating. There is too much fashion, too many stupid 'entertaining' features and nowhere near enough music. It was never IDJ but it did once have a passable review section, when I stopped getting it it only had 5 proper record reviews for each style. Now I only get it for the Ibiza Preview issue and if it has a particularly good free CD.

Mixmag used to be ok but it became the clubbing equivelent of reading The Sun. Massively over-priced at 'a seven figure sum' in my opinion. It's utter shite.

yeah man we flogged it 8)

Apparently the buyers recieved an anonymous call (but definitely from EMAP's HQ tel no.) saying they could have it for half the agreed price if they paid in top quality 'beak'

Never really been in to Mixmag. My friend used to buy it religously for the CD reviews. Must admit they were spot on for a while.

Portishead
The Fugees
Leftield - Leftism
The Drum Club
System 7

All bought on the back of Frank Topes reco.

Can remember a GHB article back in 93. Only took the rest of the media and government 10 years to catch up!
