tbh gareth i'm surprised on both counts of what you've said there.

1) branson is a philanthropist. simple as. he's not shy of the media but he puts the hours for chari-dee triple the amount of times to that what you see covered in the media
2)how can you even entertain that the NotW have any other motive than to sell papers, raise their profile, manipulate the truth.

I wasn't saying anything about Branson... I think the people that gave were more than likely honest in their concern. More power to them.

Obviously we agree on #2, which was the point of my tirade. It's certainly no surprise to anyone, but worth pointing out once again!

I understand what your saying and I admit I am not the best person at choosing the correct things to say at getting my point across, but at the end of the day they are doctors, when not on holiday they probably dont see a lot of their children any way so why go on a family holiday and leave the children locked in a room why not get room service?? Sit on the balcony whilst the children sleep, they could have invited their friends over to the apartment for some Tapas.

Other peoples opinions will vary on this but I am of the opinion that if you make the decision to have children then you should be prepared to make sacrifices to your lifestyle.

but i agree with you that they were wrong. however, presuming they are snobs or look down at working class kids/families or somehow deserved what they got becuase they parent in a different way (which is implied by your "at least they still have their children" comment) only serves to obscure your point and make your sound ridiculous.

Point 2 - must have been a break down in communication on that one. I think we all agree that the Notw have motives only as you describe.

Point 1 - Well, I dont know the bloke well enough to pass judgement. I do know he is a PR genius. I am not necessarily suggesting his motives are not altruistic, I am just a bit uncomfortable with a brand name being attached to a reward for a missing kid, which is effectively what happens. 'ill give 10,000' 'well ill give 10,0001'.
 
Children

Rich or poor white,black, or brown a parent has a responsibility to take care of the children they bring into the world. If that means not having me or us time so be it. A child does not ask to be brought into the world. I am sadden by the event but to make excuses for the parents lack of sound judgement is daff.

on the BBC site there is a story about the mother of a kid Ben who disappeared from a villa in Corfu in 1991 when he was 21 months. not been seen or heard of since.:cry::cry::cry:

just hope there is a lucky break or something, anything, that means its not to late for maddy.:cry::cry:
 
I don't even know why this little girl is on the news all the time and people making a big deal out of it.
Thousands of little kids are stolen and killed every week ! But yet here we have all this propaganda over just 1 girl. If you ask me thats not right

Regardless, it is horrible.. but I do not understand why the parents would leave their children alone while they went and dined. Even if it was locked, what if they fell and hurt themselves. I could NEVER imagine my parents leaving me alone when I was that age. My parents never went out do dine alone.... even if they went to a nice restaurant, they ALWAYS brought my brothers and I along! I really can't comprehend why they left them in the room.. and ate without them!!!

I see your point and you're right, in principle.

The UK has very powerful media and they've gotten very attached to this story, so perhaps that's why Maddie has gotten so much more publicity than other cases that could be going on this very moment.

Also, the cross-border nature of the crime (UK family on holiday in Portugal) adds an international dimension to the case.

Plus, it's every family's nightmare - to lose your child while away on vacation. That factor has probably captured a lot of people's attention.
