Any fellow sufferers here?

Haven't had one for a few months and when I get them they're usually bearable for me. I usually get distorted vision for a few minutes or so and then the headache kicks in but I can generally put up with it without too much discomfort.

Today however I got the distorted vision for about half an hour and it now feels like someone is playing football with my brain. I also feel nauseous.

Anyone out there managed to find anything that actually works. I've had 4 extra strength paracetamol but they haven't touched it

My family suffer from it badly, I luckily escaped it!

Nothing really works, other than lying down in a dark room, having someone mop your feverish brow.

My Granddad wasn't allowed to eat cheese or drink beer!

Hmmmm they say about cheese setting them off but I never touch it. I've never been able to figure out what triggers them off they just seem to happen so randomly??

I can feel a sickie coming on.............

I often use it as a sickie ;)

The most common migraine triggers are:

  • Stress (either during a stressful time or right after stress subsides).
  • Menstrual cycle in women.
  • Too much or too little sleep.
  • Fasting or skipping meals.
  • Changes in barometric pressure and weather.
  • Bright light or reflected sunlight.
  • Foods such as chocolate.
  • Excessive caffeine or caffeine withdrawal.
  • Smoking or being around someone who smokes.
Other migraine triggers include:

  • Strong emotions, such as depression or anxiety.
  • Physical exercise.
  • Alcohol, such as red wine and port.
  • Aspartame, an artificial sweetener that is found in diet sodas, light yogurts, and other sugar-free foods.
  • Monosodium glutamate (MSG), a seasoning that is often found in Chinese food, meats, and other foods.
  • Nitrates, which are found in cured meats such as hot dogs, bacon, and cold cuts.
  • Tyramines, which are found in pickled or marinated foods, aged cheeses, and yeast.
  • Birth control pills and hormone therapy.
  • Certain medications, especially those that dilate blood vessels.
  • Overuse of headache pain medications, leading to rebound headaches.
  • Bright lights, glare, reflected sunlight, or other intense visual stimuli.
  • Odors such as perfume, paint, dust, and certain flowers.

I have suffered from migranes since I was about 12 years old....I used to get one every month around the same time....with distorted vision for a few minutes.....killer headache for about 3 hours....feeling sick....and didnt actually feel better until I...ummmm....vomitted! I gave up chocolate, cheese, bananas, coke, caffine...etc....you name it....I tried it.....:x .....nothing worked!

The last one I can remember having is when I was 18....since then I´ve not had one since (5 years ago)....no idea what it was....what caused it etc......

The poo thing was....until about 2 years ago I used to hate swallowing tablets....so either took nothing or had to take Dispirin which is vile!

I totally understand you....they are awful! What is nice is a cold flannel on your head during the pain! Mmmmm!:)

They are real bastards. I've never been able to find anything that actually has any impact on them.
Oh well I just hope it clears by 3pm on Saturday so I can watch Liverpool kick West Hams ass :D

My aunties had them for about 7 years now, she has about 3 bad days a week where she's in bed, throwing up. Has had to go to a specialist in London and had a week long stay in a hospital to try and fathom what the triggers are, she's been on various medication and nothing as yet has worked.

My advice would be to see your doctor about them to see if he can give you something stronger.

Wow that's pretty bad Mambs sorry. Knowing how bad they can be she has my sympathy

My mum's suffered from them ever since I can remember - hers are menstural so they happen every month.

Its really bad for her and shes very ill for usually about 3 days - I did hear that they can be hereditary but i've touch wood so far never had one.

Yes I suffer from them. I remember my first one oh so well, when I was about 14.

Had a couple of years without them, but now they are back.

Really blurred and horrible vision for about 10 minutes, followed by a 'full' head and sickness.
Makes me feel rubbish for the rest of the day.

Migraines Schmigraines.
