Ibiza will remain one of the most expensive places to hire a car this summer,
according to a study carried out by local newspaper, Ultima Hora.
Whilst one week's hire of the most basic vehicle in August will set you back
€134.40 in Gran Canaria, the most expensive option in Ibiza is €625.12
for the same dates, nearly €500 dearer.
However, whilst this figure remains uniquely expensive, the average cost on the island
of €340 is still higher than all of the other popular Spanish resorts like Mallorca,
Malaga and Gran Canaria, with only Hertz and Avis maintaining a similar price
across the board.
The person responsible for the sector in Pimeef, Elias Escandell, revealed
that the majority of companies had increased their fleet moderately this summer,
predicting there would not be the lack of vehicles which had such a negative effect
on the island during 2009.
Across the Balearics there has been a 30 per cent reduction in the number
of vehicles available, according to stats produced last week.
Whilst in 2007 there were 50,000 cars for hire in the Balearics,
last year there were just 35,000.
