Hiya folks .. well, Sheffield is coming back for sure ... a couple of new underground house nights opening (aswell as Scuba) and Urban Gorilla and Pin Up are going from strength to strength ...

This week at The Pin-Up Club.....

...We proudly present Mr Greg Vickers from Manchester's Tribal Sessions/Sankeys Soap.
As a weekly Super-Resident at Tribal Sessions, Greg has made a serious impression on dance music in recent years. In 2002 he became the youngest DJ to do a guest mix for Radio 1's Essential Mix, on the back of what seemed like almost monthly entries in muzik's hallowed 'those who rocked it!' column.
Greg is now strongly established in what must be the most exciting residency in the country given the eclectic mix of the line-ups, personally helping establish a rapport between club and clubbers essential to the way Tribal Sessions has developed. Warming up for the likes of Sasha, Carl Cox, John Digweed, Jeff Mills, Derrick Carter, Steve Lawler, DJ Sneak, Francois Kevorkian, Sven Vath, Green Velvet, David Morales, Dave Clarke, X-Press 2, Layo&Bushwacka!, Nick Warren and Derrick May.

Pin-Up People, prepare to be impressed...!

10 - 3 - Fez Club - 40, Quarter Square, Sheffield.

Yeah .. sorry Drew .. but on Sunday 2nd they are taking over Bar Matrix .. two rooms of excellent music with a couple of live musicians (percussion abd sax I believe) ... and some of the "old" Sheffield DJ's aswell as the new ... Will keep you posted!

* Nice, pre Hed Kandi party ;)

THE PIN-UP CLUB ****
The Fez Club, 40 Charter Square, Sheffield

Dress code: Not as such but if you’re not gonna make the effort I wouldn’t bother, to be honest
Doorstaff: A firm, business-like efficiency, there to weed out any budding mischief-makers
Ease of entry: A moderate queue once the pubs start turfing them out, but get there just after 11 and you should be in soon enough
Accessibility: Up some stairs to get in, then up another flight to get to the main room
Promoter nonsense: ‘Jack your ass house music for mixed up party people’ – declares the flyer
Superstar DJs: Regulars Dean Webster, Firas and Tom Lynch, with regular guest spots from talents as diverse as Shindig’s Del and Scooby, and Red Room’s mighty MYNC project
Musical Policy: Uptempo, funky house is the order of the day here, with the odd refreshing blast of Rio-style percussion to add a Latin flavour
Big tune(s) of the moment: Much to choose from, but DJ Touche’s The girl’s a freak and Groove Armada’s mighty Super Stylin’ are sure to get the blood pumping
Atmosphere: An intimate, friendly vibe where it seems that everyone is your buddy. Like Cheers, only much much cooler
Number of obvious drug/alcohol casualties: Please, this is a quality establishment
Punter age range: Betwixt 20 and 30, with a few brave older ones who manage to pull it off convincingly
Copping off potential: Rarely have I seen such a collection of damn fine good-looking folks all in the one place. I’d say your luck here depends on your skills on the dancefloor
Décor: Classically candle-lit, where huge red drapes adorn the dancefloor, believe me, the place is stylish
Chill out Room: Pull back the curtains by the dancefloor to reveal one of several, where candle-lit booths encourage those friendly goings-on
Toilets: Nothing special, a wet floor all night. Nice doors, though
At the bar: Alas, no draught beers, but a fine selection of bottles and spirits all around the £2 mark
Random overheard quote: “Yeah… Evisu mate, what d’ya reck?” Nice shoes, squire
The best thing about The Pin-up Club: The venue itself. The cosy setting (300 capacity) plays a perfect host to the affable ambience everyone brings to the proceedings
The worst thing about the Pin-up Club: The only major grumble could be that bottled beer might not be everyone’s bag, but I’m sure they’ll get over it. Go on, be cosmopolitan
Chance of a cab home: I’d leave a little early, but the cab rank’s only five minutes away, so you shouldn’t have any trouble
Overall impression: Even if you’re not really a house aficionado, the sheer coolness of this place’ll permeate you simply by osmosis; I defy you to not have a wicked evening
Marks out of 10: A well-earned 9
Return visit? For sure, just point me up those steps…
