Miami 2007

Just to let everyone know: I am from the states and have been to Ibiza before, but never to WMC. All I can say is you have to go sometime. The vibe is unbelievable, it's crazy how much Miami during WMC reminds me of Ibiza. It was definatly one of the top ten moments of my life! Definatly plan on coming next year, if you think that you would be at all interested. Just like Ibiza, once you come once you will plan on coming back many times. Brilliant! Only sad that it went by so fast.

Here is a little of my rundown. Thursday arrived in town just in time to get to B.E.D. to see Above & Beyond play a five hour set. B.E.D. is pretty small, but the place was absolutley mental all night long. Couldn't believe the vibe, I had to pinch myself a couple of times just to figure out that I wasnt dreaming.

Friday we didn't have a set plan where we wanted to go. Next year will by all tics in advance. We tried getting into a club to see David Guetta, a no go because we didn't have advance tics. So then we tried a club to see Ministry of Sound party, same story. Then we tried Bob Sinclar, same story. Moral of the story get to the club early (10:00) and by tics in advance. After all that though we still had a blast Friday night. We ended up going to the Clevlander pool party. Fun and unusual to party outside until 5:00 A.M., in the end it all worked out well.

Saturday went to see Tiesto and Fedde Le Grand @ Mansion. Club is amazing lighting is good and Lasers were top notch. A Damn good club. Fedde was pretty good, but I expected a little more out of him then what I got. He didn't really get the crowd going until about halfway through his set. Second half was good though. Then Tiesto came on about:roll: 12-1:30, not to sure as I was losing track of time very fast. Anyway sometimes I don't like Tiesto, but thought his set was awesome. Played Arcadia from G&D which made my night as it is from my favorite song. Also played that housey sounding song from his Ipanema beach video. Left about 4:20 as it was starting to get really banging and I wasn't in the mood for banging at that particular moment. Went back to hotel and partied in the Hot/Tub pool till the sun came up.

Next year go to Miami, it's definatly worth the long flight across the Atlantic! See you there!

Here is a review I wrote for myspace blog.
My first time at Winter Music Conference was one of the best times of my life. Everything seemed to click together just right. Here is a rundown of my trip.
I arrived at Ft. Lauderdale airport Thursday evening. Brian picked me up in his ultra exclusive Ford Focus rental. We dropped my bags off at his Condo and promptly headed to the Clevlander Hotel as it was already getting late. There was a full on party outside by the pool in progress. We grabbed a seat close by the make shift dance floor and ordered are food. The party was streaming live on XM, and it was going off. We ate are food and people watched for a little bit. We had to leave though as it was getting late and we wanted to make sure we got into B.E.D..

We arrived at B.E.D. to see Above & Beyond. It was a little dead in the beginning. Within the hour though the place was packed wall to wall with people. There were speakers brought in just for the conference that went all the way up to the ceiling. The ratio of guys to girls was not that good though. There were probably 3 guys for every girl in the place. That didn’t stop the fun though. The place went mental from the time Above & Beyond came on around midnight until we left around 4:15. People were singing all the words to the songs out loud. It was definatly a good time. After we left we tried to get into Nikki Beach. We didn’t get in though because they wanted full price and it closed in half an hour. So we decided to call it a night.

The next day we lounged around the pool and beach just relaxing. At night we decided to pre-party again at the Clevlander. We ended up staying there till 11:30, not a good idea. We were going to try and go to Cameo to see Bob Sinclar. It wasn’t meant to be as the place was packed and there was no sort of line going on, just a big mob of people. Beings we didn’t have a flock of beautiful girls with us, there was no way the bouncer was going to let us in. So we tried a couple of other clubs and ended up with the same luck. So we decided to head back to the Clevlander. It was definatly a good idea as the place was packed. We danced a little bit, but mainly just people watched and drank. We decided to head back to the condo around 4. When we got back we decided to go to the hot tub. We had a couple of drinks and then went to bed to get ready for the next day.

Saturday we were planning on going to the beach all day. We went to The Big Pink to get some lunch, but the place was packed. We then decided to go eat at the Marriot on the Ocean. The food was good. After that we headed to the loungers on the beach. After being there for about an hour it started raining so we packed it up and went to the Hot Tub in the condo. We set in the hot tub for about an hour and then I decided to go to the gym and get a quick work out in. After that we decided to go shopping. The whole time were shopping it is raining so we got pretty wet, although it was still fun. We then decided to go back to the hotel and chill until night came.

Saturday was the night I had been waiting for, Tiesto @ Mansion. Everything clicked just right and I had one of the best times of my life. We got there at ten to make sure we got in, as we didn’t want to miss it and stand in line all night. Mansion is a great club the lighting, sound, lasers and video screens are all top notch as well as the plush décor. Fedde Le Grand was playing from the time we got in. His set was okay but not that great. Tiesto came on around one. His set was awesome in my opinion. One of the first songs he played was Gabriel & Dresden Arcadia, (my favorite song of all time); you can imagine I was going mental the whole time it was playing. Some other songs he played was Till There Was You, Gabriel & Dresden’s The Killers remix of When We Were Young, and his new song with the video of Ipanema Beach in Brazil. During the Ipanema Beach song they were showing visuals of the beach, it was mind blowing. I was dancing next to an older couple that had went to Ipanema, and they were definetly digging the song and visuals. I pretty much danced non-stop from midnight until 4:20 in the morning. The atmosphere on the dance floor was amazing. My legs were like putty and even though I was having a blast I figured it was about time to go home as the club closes at five anyways. We went back to the hot tub. I don’t know if I have ever felt so good getting in a hot tub. My legs and feet were killing me and the hot tub was just the trick I needed to feel top notch again. After that we went to bed. Unfortunatly, we had to go home on Sunday, that’s a whole other story though, that’s not worth talking about as we dealt with flight problems until I finally got home late afternoon Monday.

All in all though a great trip.

Nice review 8)

Just out of curiosity, how is the drug situation over there? if clubbers want to find them can they do so easily?
I've got the impression it's clamped down much more than in ibiza, or Europe in general, not sure if the assumption is right or not!

Did see two undercover cops going into opium on friday night. Also pretty easy to figure out that the guy always standing in the bathroom talking on his cell phone all night was an undercover cop. With that being said just be carefull, I'm sure you will be okay. Words like "Mindblowing visuals, Going Mental" were used in my review.

BTW if your looking for something to do during the day anytime after 12, go to Nikki Beach, it was right by are condo and going off all day everyday. Peak time there seemed to be 2-3 until 6-8 depending on the day and who was playing.

Some more tips Miami Beach (an island) and Miami are actually two different cities. You go across a causaway (bridge) to get between the two. The clubs on Miami beach close at 5A.M.. The Clubs in Miami are open 24 hrs. Opium on Miami Beach did have day parties that started at 11. I would much rather go party at a pool party or at Nikki Beach though during the day in such a beautifull place then sit in a dark club (maybe you need to think about how much drugs your doing if a dark club sounds better). Space, Pawn Shop, and Twilo are all located in Miami. Opium, Cameo, Mansion, Set, B.E.D., Mynt, Prive are all located in Miami Beach. I think it is much better to stay on Miami beach as that is where all the pool party's are happening, and is much nicer then Miami in general. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

ThisIsTulsa - i think the Bob Sinclair party you were talking about on Friday was at Set, not Cameo. You gotta look the part there that's for sure if you are not on the list. They didn't have presales for that party anyway.

Sinclair played on Sat nite with Guetta at the FMIF party at Cameo. and the only party Guetta played on friday nite was the AM Only party downtown at Nocturnal. He did show up around 330 at Ink for the Swedish House Mafia party with Joacim Gaurrad (no idea how to spell his name right lol) that friday night. Sounds like you may have friday/saturday a bit mixed up.

you missed out a lot IMO on some of the great day parties like the Remix Hotel free events with Dubfire, Mark Knight, Ritchie Hawtin among many others. Also, the BBC1 pool party at the Surfcomber was easily considered the best day event - much better than Nikki Beach. Nikki is a great venue for partying at but they have noise permit issues there that prevents them for turning it up too much. I believe on thursday they had to cut the music for 2.5 hours! And the outdoor music has to be cut at 9pm.

the Space patio in the morning with the sun shining is something to do at least once, and Twilo for DT rocked it friday morning too. While you can party into the afternoon downtown, most people obviously go there straight from the SoBe clubs that close at 5am - really no one goes there in the afternoon - its just the stragglers from the night before there at that point.

and as you learned - its very important to either by presales or know you are on the guest list to get in the events. the FMIF party was $50 presale and $100-$150 at the door to get in.

almost everything i went to kicked ass - my favorite parties:

Dubfire at Mynt (open bar and Nic opening and then Cedric)
Swedish House Mafia at Ink
FMIF
BBC1
Cedric at Mynt
DT techno set
S&D at Mansion (okay just the Sasha part lol)
Remix hotel Sat and Sun afternoons

I may have where we were heading a little wrong on Friday night. All I know is that are first stop was set, 2nd Cameo, 3rd, Prive/Opium. Thanks for the clear up. Point was we waited way to late to get in/didn't have pre-sales that night. Like you said it worked much better for A&B getting there early and having pre-sales and Tiesto same thing Eary/Pre-sales. Although still had a blast Friday partying in the OPen at Clevlander until the early morning, just wish I hadn't spent so much of it taking cabs from place to place. Can't wait for Ibiza and going back to WMC. Tried to make it too Deep Dish sunday at SPace but like I said earlier was in another state and wore out from dancing 5+ hrs at Tiesto. Had my Deep Dish/Pacha shirt and clean pants laid out and everything, plan was to take a quick shower and head downtown, but wasn't meant to be.

You wouldn't have gotten into Deep Dish at Space until maybe 8-9am without presales...there were about 2000 people in front of Space at 6am...i love Space but its a huge hassle during the conference. We were there from 3am - 730am for Erick Morillo and never saw him as the fire marshall had the room he was playing in closed
