Men's suits

Wrong again, my Mancunian friend. ;)

It is because it is for work that you should get something nice. If you're going to bother putting on a suit in a job where it's not required, then you're obviously trying to impress (in this case, clients I assume). Best to look the part.

And the fact is that designer suits usually tend to be better quality, meaning you'll get more wear and tear out of them to justify the larger initial outlay.

I suppose if you are putting a lot of strain on the stitching (especially around the derrier), the buttons, zipper and the weft & warp then it may be true....hence why the yank view to buy expensive is vindicated!!!

I HAVE to wear a suit @ work hence why I got 2 budget models and a budget busting PS number which gets wheeled out at special occasions!!

Wow, thanks for all the advice!

I'd love to get something tailored, will definitely look into Raja fashions - is he the guy who advertises in the economist? No trips to HK or India currently planned but will keep it in mind (might be doing Thailand at the end of the year). I also looked at Hugo Boss & Paul Smith and both are definitely still on my list, I tried on a lovely Boss suit during the sales which I may go back and look at again. I think I would like to go for something a little pricier but nothing too crazy..

he is indeedy.

from what i could find out on the internet, majority peeps happy with service, and if u bulk buy, u can haggle with free shirts n ties etc... takes about 4-6 weeks to turnaround tho, but seeing as you are pretty much same size as me, its hard to find a suit you like that hasnt got wizzard sleeves and legs!

rubbish Johnny, he's just said it's for work, hence why pay more than £150 for something you are not enjoying yourself in, wedding, christening, big do then granted go a little upmarket and stretch the budget....remember mark style never goes out of fashion!!! and p.s I have 2 next suits for work, both v fashionable, both slim fit, one single button with pique lapel and one 2 button. slim lapel with double back vents, I wear one for aweek, get it claned ets, had em 6mths and both look likenew!!!

I'm afraid he's right.

And the thought of washing a suit any more than once a year is laughable (other than emergencies, of course).

Marky, there's heaps of choice out there, though all I'd sway you from is the cheap retailers such as Next, or the uber fashionable ones that aren't suit makers (see: All Saints).

The former will fall apart and lose shape quicker than you can say "wheeeey, check out the lining", and the latter is just plain silly as they're made for Killers fans that have no use for the trouser.

In short, they're for POVOs and BOGANs ;)

Go to M&S or Reiss or a Dept store with Ted Bakers in if you want a reasonably priced one made by a reputable manufacturer that isn't work by idoits that work in Insurance.

You might be able to grab a PS or HB in the sales in your price range too.

Oh, and try and go shopping for it on a weekday.

Get a plain 2 button black number, as it can easily be dressed smart smart, or if you have a niece that needs escorting to see Brandon Flowers and his chums and she doesn't want to be embarassed, and, heaven forbid next time there's a funeral you'll be laughing too. Well, probably not literally, but you get what I mean.

Well said and extra marks for your excellent use of Aussie vernacular ;)

I agree with jjinit.

but then i probably wouldnt be able to tell a Next suit from an £800 designer suit if i saw one.

I always thought the same mate, always just had a M&S one for Weddings and Funerals, But I have just got a Suit from Hackett half price for my Wedding. When you wear them its different gravy. It makes you feel like a million dollars.

whoa!!

dont wanna be labelled a skin flint or anything as a guy who spent many years in the rag trade at manufacturing & design level to shop floor...im better placed as anyone to appreciate the value and importance of at least one good whistle in a mans wardrobe......what Im saying is if I spend the best part of a monkey on one (which I have) in Reiss, Paul Smith et al I dont want to wreck it by wearing it everyday for work, hence why I buy budget one for that purpose!!

just wanted to clear that up!!

Shirley if your wearing a suit every day its worth spending a bit of cash on it?

It's in the fit and the quality.

I can't believe you guys get away with just one suit. Most of you have good office jobs!

If you're going to climb the corporate ladder, even in the informal UK, you're going to need them down the road. Plus, if you have a selection of decent suits, no need to categorize them as "this one's for work" and "this one's for special events". You wear whatever fits the occasion.

I've got 8 Brooks Brothers, one YSL, one Trobolini, one Boateng and one Emporio Armani. To be fair, 3 of those are out of action - the latter 2 I don't wear as they're too big on me now and the jacket from the Italian suit has been relegated to biz-casual-with-jeans duty. I generally rotate between 5 of the BB suits for regular work days.

I'm not trying to brag here... this wan't one big shopping spree or anything, and it involved a bit of sacrifice. This collection was built up over years of just buying one or two suits every time the holiday sales role around. To wit: my new grey BB suit from this holiday season was on mega sale and cost me about 155 pounds.

Mark, do NOT buy a black suit for work. Stick with dark gray or navy blue. Black suits are for evening events, funerals, and bandits.

I'll be doing some high end chauffeuring this year and my guess for that would be to wear the best whistle you can lay your hands on even if its for everyday use.

One chauffeur I met was bleating on about dropping £80 on a suit:eek::eek::eek:

So he's driving a motor worth quarter of a million and looking about as dapper as a feckin breeze block...

I would say always look the best you can in business.

Robbie G is right, you'll find one that you'll feel a million dollars in and you'll instantly feel the difference.

I used to buy the ted bakers, etc but last year one of my business bought a PS suit and i thought "****ing hell that looks a different class". So i got a PS and a HB. HB are really reasonable given the quality, but they are still a fews yards behind the PS.

I also agree with Morbyd, you should buy the best you can afford whatever that is.

If you're of a smaller frame a black suit can make you look shorter/ smaller, plus they do not age well, I'd personally steer clear of black if you're wearing a tie and collar. However is you are wearing the suit with a t shirt underneath, then black will look good.

Anyway, whatever you do, as long as you stay aways from the Thomas PInk / Austin Reed city boy look I'm sure you'll be fine:lol:

some of us can make "budget" look "budget busting"......you've either got it or you havent!!! ;)

I always look the don......and when it's time for the posh suit to come out......jeezus...it's game over!!

One chauffeur I met was bleating on about dropping £80 on a suit:eek::eek:

if it was in small denomination coins I can see his point.....could damage the lustre!!
