Medieval Ibiza Town.
Next weekend sees the traditional medieval fare in the old part of Ibiza Town taking place. Starting on the 7th & lasting until the 9th, the old town will be divided into 8 differently themed medieval zones where 240 animators as well as hundreds of other helpers & participants dressed in replica costumes of 500 years ago will help create the atmosphere for this special event commemorating the heritage of Ibiza. There will be music, dancing, exhibitions, re-enactments of historic scenes, theatre, folklore, craft & gastronomic delights for all to try. One big event is expected to be the enactment of the storming of the castle walls by pirates & Arabs. Huge crowds are expected & the program for the event is supposedly going to be even better than last year, which broke all previous records. Special free parking areas will be available made available for those attending the event over the weekend.

Ibiza town went back over 500 years in time last weekend. The incredible medieval fare celebrated in the town attracted over 130.000 visitors to watch the incredible spectacular. There was a themed running battle between pirates & knights defending the old town, which took place in the streets of the town & was expertly presented by a theatre group from Madrid. Cannons roared, gunpowder exploded & the sword was run through more than one of the "baddies" until, true to form, the knights saved the town.
The craft market & folk fare featured interesting exhibits from the dark ages as well as music, dancing & more theatre. Acrobats, jugglers, dancers & wandering minstrels, invited to the weekend from as far away as Prague, mingled with the huge crowd. Their presence made the beautifully decorated & transformed "Medieval" Old Town of Ibiza look even more realistic as if it really was 1504!
The press were there from all over Europe & the politicians took a bow before the cameras. It appears as if all the previous squabbles over who had or who had not paid for the event were at least forgotten on the day! All in all, the entire event was a huge hit, attracting thousands of visitors to the island just for the weekend. The celebration gets better every year since the medieval fare was first started in 1999 to mark the UNESCO World Heritage Award which Ibiza Town received.
It seems a pity that only a few days before the event there was still not a mention to promote the fare on some of the official island web sites. It also seems to be a pity that there are not more of these types of events staged throughout summer & winter staged all over the island. The medieval fare certainly does attract a different type of tourism to Ibiza & there are plenty of other historic, cultural & environmental features on the island, which could be exploited in this way.

130.000 ???? That is equal to the total population of the island. So which website attention could help to add a few more...
