The next date for your diaries will be Friday October 22nd. We are one and what a first year it's been. Thanks to all that have partied with us, you make the night what it is.
Without a shadow of a doubt our party in April 2009 was the best party so far. It was a perfect blend of great people and amazing music, a Detroit maestro, soundsystem and a dirty, sweaty basement.

The atmosphere and music was on another level. The response in the weeks following the party was also unreal, with emails, messages, calls and texts from people telling us what fun they had and begging for us to put Kenny Larkin on again. If you missed out first time around, believe the hype – don't miss this.

We wanted to get Kenny back, he deserved another go. An encore if you like. We felt our first birthday was the perfect time to bring back the superstar that is Kenny Larkin.

Joshua Brooks is a Manchester institution. Situated in the heart of Mancheser's student district, the Victorian basement has played host to some of the World's best DJs over the years. Fitted with a brand spanking new sound system for 2010/11 we feel this intimate 200 hundred capacity venue will be perfect for our birthday mega rave with Kenny Larkin.
You are reminded that Joshua Brooks is only 200 capacity, it's our first birthday and Larks was one of our most popular guests last year. A simple sum that equals = advance tickets.

The History?

Last October we launched with the very simple aim of showcasing the world's best DJing talent in a no nonsense environment with the help of a crowd full of some very contented people. We like to think that over the past nine parties we've done just that and we hope that you can join us to celebrate turning the ripe old age of one.

When trying to decide what guest to have on for our 1st Birthday, the choice was easy really; six months ago, for our Easter special we welcomed Detroit techno maestro Kenny Larkin to our basement shindig and he absolutely destroyed the place. The scenes we witnessed that night were the stuff of legend; if you were there you'll know what we mean. If you weren't, you may have heard about it from a friend or seen the videos online. Absolute pandemonium.

It really was amazing.

This is going to be one party that shouldn't be missed. A true master laying down the tightest, twisted techno grooves for the best, most up for it crowd in Manchester. If you have never had the pleasure of hearing or seeing Larkin smash a dancefloor, then we have included a hanfull of mix & video links at the bottom of the email. Contrary to the stereotype of techno and house makers as anonymous, shadowy beings, Larkin's never been opposed to cultivating a personality and an image.

The DJ / Producer?

Kenny Larkin is a child of Detroit and a member of the second wave of Detroit techno artists alongside luminaries Carl Craig, Stacey Pullen, Robert Hood, Rolando, Mike Banks and Jeff Mills. Inspired by the new, futuristic sound created by the “Beleville Three” (Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins & Derrick May) the aforementioned DJ's set about taking it to the next level.

Kenny Larkin epitomises all that is soulful about electronic music. In his productions and DJ sets he effortlessly fuses techno and house with elements of jazz, soul and funk creating a sound that is so groovy it would make your grandparents jump up and get down with their bad selves.
As a producer, Kenny has released on pretty much any label worth it's salt, the list includes Plus-8, Transmat, R&S, KMS, Warp, Planet-E, Rush Hour, Peacefrog, Be As One and his own Art of Dance and remixed artists and groups such as Carl Craig, Inner City and Sade.

Those who know Larkin's production style know he is a man who sets no definable limits in his music. Terms like techno, soul, funky, jazzy, ambient come to mind, but it still does little justice in describing what his music accomplishes. Larkin emphasizes what many electronic artists today never dreamt of making. That is surely the sign of great music. If you are at all interested in where electronic music has travelled and where it is going, look to Larkin for some answers.

Kenny's remixing efforts have recently been highly sought after. This is due in part to his superbly crafted 2009 remix of Ben Klock's “OK” featuring Elif Biçer, which hit many top remix lists of 2009.

In 2010 alone, Kenny has been commissioned to remix seven projects from various high profile artists, including Plastikman, Ben Klock and Radioslave.. It's no surprise these brooding artists respect Kenny for the classic Detroit angle he brings to re-create their sounds.

As accomplished as he is in the studio, it is his revered DJ sets we want to focus on. Kenny has a profound ability to piece together music so seamlessly and effortlessly that even the toughest of crowd will find themselves whipped into frenzy, letting loose and feeling the uncompromising yet utterly soulful sound of the man they call Dark Comedy.

Invited to play the best clubs all over the word, our first birthday is a rare chance to see Kenny Larkin in a venue as small and intimate as Joshua Brooks. Joshua Brooks is a 200 capacity basement, we feel this is perfect for what we want to achieve. Kenny Larkin is distinctly one of the world's most premiere leaders of Detroit techno in the electronic music industry today. Kenny regularly plays institutions such as Fabric, Tresor, Panorama Bar, Movement Festival, Amsterdam Dance Event and Rex Club to name a few. Sandwiched into these goliath, career defining gigs earlier this year was our little party at the Roadhouse in April 2010. Kenny celebrated his birthday with is that day, as the video below shows. We thought it was fitting to welcome the man himself back to celebrate our birthday with us. We can't wait and we hope you can join us.

A little under 2 weeks to go until this, its come around fast. Infact, the last year has flown by - it seems like only yesterday we were pacing nervously waiting for the doors of the Roadhouse to open and Rolando to do it like only he can.

Hope you're all OK and you had a good weekend? Well the week is finally upon us and we celebrate our 1st birthday THIS FRIDAY.

We are looking forward to welcoming Kenny back, he was without doubt the most relentless guest we had on last year, holding the dance floor for his entire set! I think we all would of been dancing at 10am if he had kept playing.

He will be playing for at least 3 hours this time. Bonus.

The last year has been a total buzz with some really memorable nights and moments, we would like to say a HUGE thanks to all our regulars that make the night what it is - we are lucky to have such an up for it crowd. There seems to be alot of Content newbies joining us on Friday, so we're looking forward to seeing all the familiar faces aswell as new.
