Hilarious news. I would not be surprised at all if the judge was pro-Second Amendment. I know the 2nd Amendment is an American thing, but a judge that will allow the man to go free for defending his property by whatever force available at hand will probably not have a problem with law abiding citizens having firearms for protection.
As Drew mentioned they are hesitant to deal with hoodlums. Probably because even the cops are unarmed as well as the possible consequences with the legal system. Then who else is left there to protect the good citizens?
I think the yobs or the gang-bangers will think twice prior to pulling off such (or worse) acts if they do not know the person they are thinking of taking advantage of would make them stare down a barrel of a 45ACP.
I do not know what the legal obligations are in the UK for the police, but in the US You Have No Right To Expect The Police To Protect You From Crime. That is, if the police does not arrive on time and something bad happens, you have no recourse. That's definitely the case in CA. Hence, if you do not protect yourself who will?
Sorry to go ranting, but it was a very interesting post and I wanted to express my $0.02.
