Manumission moves to Amnesia on Fridays

although I think that by losing Manumission, Privilege won't be very far from El Divino and Eden numbers...

It's a FACT more than ever that Ibiza is run by 3 clubs.

i believe monza and meganite wont be affected at all

getting monza was a step in the right direction for privilege music policy wise, last years lineups were truly dire.

if dc10 closes i believe circoloco will too, i dont think it will move there, but i think we may see another party spring up at privilege run by the same group with similar lineups under a different guise

not sure why privilege and manumission fell out but i heard that the club gave them an ultimatum: give them 500k Euros or the party is off....obviously they weren't going to pay that so this is the result.

strange.

the beginning of a million of legends...

I really don't see how this is going to work... The Amnesia Terrace is minute compared to Privilege.
If I'm honest I wasn't a great fan of Manumissions anyway and although I had a good time, I wouldn't go again, but I am really glad I had the chance to experience it how it should be.:)

Without manumission does privelage have another night were the full club is used? For me the pull of manumission was seeing privelage full.

This 2007 season has been dominated by controversy and constant changes. I really believe that our famous 'soap' script writers back in the U.K. would struggle to keep up with the goings on this season so far, and I stress the words 'so far', cos we still have a little under two months still to go. So, we pick up on the latest bit of action, which is the ongoing dispute between the organisers/promoters of Manumission and the owner Jose Maria of Privilege Nightclub.

As I am sure everyone has heard of the events of Friday 3rd August when it all came to an abrupt end when Jose Maria refused all clubbers entry and thousands of people were left bewildered and disappointed. As I mentioned last week, this argument was due to a fine incurred last season and whose responsibility it was to pay it. Over two thousand of the clubbers who were turned away that night had already purchased their tickets before travelling to the 10,000 capacity Privilege, however a little relief from the whole situation of that night was that those people who had purchased pre sale tickets would be refunded for their inconvenience.

Shortly after the 'fiasco' of August 3rd a decision was made to move venue by the promoters of Manumission across the road to Amnesia, different venue same night, Fridays.

So sadly its the end of an era. Manumission started their rise to the top at Privilege back in the mid to late 90's and every year has seen a constant progression from a night they were trying to promote and explain, to a night that is now famous the world over. I really believe that Privilege was the perfect club and launch pad for Manumission to evolve and gather momentum, let´s not forget size matters in this world of ours and Privilege is the biggest, and for Manumission especially, size is important. This is because no other night on the island is like Manumission. It´s a show, an array of different performers bringing the theme of the night together at the end to tell you and me in the crowd a story.

And for all these shows and performers you need a very big stage and a lot of space for them only, let alone the thousands of people who want to party. Privilege is the only 'super club' who can boast this grandure, the sheer size and layout of the main room is similar to a huge theatre, perfect for the shows of Manumission.

veryvery strange everything:

-privilege invents a "14years birthday party" instead of manumission ...

-... the manumission guys find out after so many years in privilege that
"...The size of Privilege created distance between the people and the performance, Amnesia allows the crowd to enjoy the experience of performance..."
and pretend that
"...We were ready to move on and see this move as a chance to show
that Manumission is a party and a spirit, not a venue..."

hahaha ...

MANUMISSION HAS MOVED TO AMNESIA
¡VIVA LA REVOLUCÍON!

This year’s show was designed to tour and we had our first experience of that last Friday, a little sooner than we had hoped, none the less we were delighted with our opening party in Amnesia.Manumission started in a 400 capacity gay club in Manchester. Within 12 weeks it was voted the No.1 club in the U.K. by DJ magazine. It moved to KU (now Privelege) in the summer of 94 where it became the biggest weekly party in the world. Innovation kept and keeps Manumission alive. We were ready to move on and see this move as a chance to show that Manumission is a party and a spirit, not a venue. The size of Privilege created distance between the people and the performance, Amnesia allows the crowd to enjoy the experience of performance. Immersed and surrounded by beautiful girls, character actors, magic, aerial shows, film, the avant-garde, flamenco dancers. Our aim for this year’s show was always to create a much more interactive experience; the move to Amnesia has allowed us to achieve this. You could be asked to co-star in the making of a movie directed by Johnny Golden a.k.a. The Fat Producer, entertained by a 1950s sailor girl, or pulled onto the stage to experience the delights of Admiral Mercedes, the beautiful but deadly transsexual created in Lord Otterman’s evil hospital, eat wedding cake, blow bubbles, wear a clown’s nose. In short, anything can happen, and it probably will. You will be made to decide if you are an evil Dominator or a resistance Rebel fighter.
Whose side are you on? Find out at manumission.com. Take sides, dress up, bring a costume, wear a mask. Join in.

Manumission: wildly interactive, glamorous, richly decorated. Filled with gorgeous girls wearing costume from the design houses Agent Provocateur and House of Harlot. Brimming with the burlesque the show feels more like a trip to the original Moulin Rouge, a fin de siècle Paris pumping to a disco beat.

As ever we continue to boast a line-up of some of the worlds most interesting and talented DJs and musicians: Tom Middleton, Zane Lowe, Fat Boy Slim, Mark Ronson, Steve Aoki, Mark Jones and The Wall of Sound DJs, Reverend and The Makers, Paco Fernandez, The Streets Soundsystem, YoYo DJs Seb Chew and Leo Greenslade, Manolo Diaz, Lottie, The Arctic Monkeys and many more.

Welcome to Manumission… Up close and personal.

Enjoy the show x

on another site there was an interview with one of the Sleazeville guys

allegedly....Privilege treid to screw more money from Manumission by attempting to get them to sign a contract..despite having a binding contract in place...hence, the doors stayed closed that week and the move was made

incidentally

various conflicting reports about the closing being the 21st or 28th

Manumission myspace = 28th Sept
Amnesia website = 28th Sept
Ticket agency = 28th Sept
some dj websites = 21st Sept

how is manumission doing in amnesia ??

looks quite strange in the spotlight-calendar,
as if "madeinitaly" would be the main event ...:

"...
Made in Italy
Main Room
Steve Lawler
Stefano Montana
Terrace
Ricky Montanari

Manumission
Tom Middleton
..."

but in reality - is "made in italy" still alive ?
are they doing their own advertising ?
(because it´s not even mentioned here):

That's just the manumission poster for Friday nights, in which they've kindly added some Made in italy details (although so small it's barely readable).Made in italy also have their own posters up for Friday nights, which i'm not sure even have details of Manumission as i think they're using the same ones all season. it's manumission who have needed to change their posters after all.Remember that Made in italy have been here in ibiza for as long as manumission and i don't think people should naturally assume that 'mish will just steamroller their way into Friday nights (which i don't believe they would try to in my opinion !).it's been hard for manumission because they've gone from a 10,000 capacity to the amnesia terrace (2,000 capacity ?). still, they're always hellbent on creating a great party !

In my opinion Manumission is even better in the Amnesia terrace than in Privilege. Felt almost too big in Privilge whereas a lot more personal in Amnesia. Plus the option of Made In Italy for a few hours is awesome - was my favourite night overall. :D

Really enjoyed Manumission in the terrace. Plus somehow it felt like the terrace was twice as big as normal when Manumission is in there.

i have seen promo material for Made In Italy that has a black bar at the bottom with Manumission details on it............unsure as to whether its only an online thing

BTW Dan - any confirmation as to the closing date.........some sources say 28th and that could sway my unconfirmed night out there
