what are the major dance events not to be missed in europe? maybe there is an internet source which shows the list of all such parties, which are really BIG, like the annual Trance Energy in Utrecht, Netherlands. what events are the absolute MUST in your opinion? (apart from summer in ibiza of course!).

Big festivals in England are:

Homelands (May) - run by Darren Hughes of Home/WLS fame and the official start to the summer for many people - altho this year it wasn't Homelands but a different festival Hi-Fi but essentially the same thing.

Glastonbury (June) - wasn't on this year but is back next year.

Global Gathering (July) - as line-ups go probably the strongest for dance music year after year.

The Big Chill (Aug) - never been but only heard good things about the festival - one for the discerning clubber.

Creamfields (Aug) - wicked line-ups, bit of a toerag reputation but I like it

Notting Hill Carnival (Aug) - free street party over 2 days - has had a bit of a bad reputation over the years but as long as you know where you're going - Good Times and Sancho Panzo tents then the most fun you can possibly have on a Monday in London.

There's also loads of new mini-festivals popping up all over the place but the ones above have all been going for years and are the biggies.

Aside from the UK, you've got:
Sonar - Barcelona
Dance Valley - Netherlands
Love Parade - Berlin (well, that's a bit different)

Oh, and don't forget Kazantip in the Crimea and FortDance in St. Petersburg ;)

I haven't been to any of these things, aside from Fort... suppose I must make a point of it some day!

DanceValley is a definite must.

Loveparade is not.

Streetparade is apparently pretty good, though (judging from the amount of SMS I got this weekend from friends there)

If you are into Psy/Goa, northern Germany hosts quite a lot of bigger goas (around 4-10.000ppl), like the VooV for example.

Mysteryland is a nice festival.

Harder styles: DefQon1, Qlimax ;)

for switzerland:

streetparade - has just taken place this weekend - in zurich. HUGE! normally there's around 1'000'000 people dancing on the streets, but this year there were "only" about 600'000-800'000 peeps due to ****ty weather and cool temperatures. still it was amazing. afterparties of every kind of electronic dance music...simply the biggest electronic dance music weekend in switzerland every year.

and there is "vision" which is a much smaller festival, but is pure quality. it always takes place somewhere in the mountains and is open-air. this year, we will have miss kittin, sven väth, richie hawtin, magda, ricardo villalobos, tobi neumann and our local heroes. as you can see it's from minimal to techno. it's always massive, but also depends a bit on the weather...
