Madonna's new baby

People have made the point 'why doesn't she adopt from the US or UK'. I think a kid from Malawi would be having a lot tougher time in an orphanage than one in the orphanage of a Western country, where there's such things as foster care and volunteers.

Or would she have been better of putting her money into something that could have supported lots of children in Malawi instead of cherry picking just the one??
Actually, I think that's what she just did! The stated purpose of her visit was to set up a program that she will fund to support an orphanage in Malawi, so she's helping other kids as well.

I'm not sure where I stand on this... I don't feel comfortable with the celebrity circumvention of the law. At the same time, I'm not sure the 18-month timeframe is necessary when kids need homes.

True, Madonna will give this kid a better life than he probably faced. But then again, his father is still alive and it's sad he'll be living so far away from him.

It's a tough, complex situation but I don't think it's fair for us to pass judgement when none of us have adopted children. I'm not sure if anyone here has grown up in an orphanage but I certainly have no idea what that's like.

I have visited a home for abandoned children in Kazakhstan and spent time with orphans in Russia and it tears your heart out. At the same time, I've been on an airplane with American parents taking home newly adopted Russian kids and something about it made me a bit uneasy (specifically, one single mother who'd adopted a kid named Sergey and renamed him Blake :?)

Yep she has given 1.something million £/$ (??) to the program which is obviously brilliant and raising awareness to the children and the country.............but it's got to follow her Kabullah religion

I wouldn't believe everything you read...Kaballah is generally a philosophy, not a religion.
I've lost count of the amount of times the tabloids have jumped on that bandwagon.
She's not a fundamentalist religious nut.

Do we actually know this has happened?

Statement from the camel herself:

My husband and I began the adoption process many months prior to our trip to Malawi.
I did not wish to disclose my intentions to the world prior to the adoption happening as this is a private family matter.
After learning that there were over one million orphans in Malawi, it was my wish to open up our home and help one child escape an extreme life of hardship, poverty and in many cases death, as well as expand our family.
Nevertheless, we have gone about the adoption procedure according to the law like anyone else who adopts a child. Reports to the contrary are totally inaccurate.
The procedure includes an 18-month evaluation period after which time we hope to make this adoption permanent.
This was not a decision or commitment that my family or I take lightly.
I am overwhelmed and inspired by my trip to Malawi and hope that it helps bring attention to how much more the world needs to do to help the children of Africa.
My heartfelt thanks for all the good wishes I have received and I hope the press will allow my family some room for us to experience the joy we feel to have David home.

She gave a statement yesterday saying she went through the same procedures as anyone else to adopt the baby.

Maybe if she had done it before Ang and Brad it wouldn’t seem so bad. No one seemed to have a problem with them doing it. :)

I've got nothing against people adoption whether it be from their own country or another country, as I said earlier in the post I do think they are some of the most selfless people in the world......it just annoys me when I've seen people try to go thru the adoption process in this country (which is nigh on impossible at times and bound in so much red-tape and legislation) that someone can come in and bypass these laws just cos they've got millions in the bank and they strut around in a leotard flashing their old saggy crotch to the world and its dog

:lol::lol::lol:

But there's no evidence she's skipped any laws. It appears to be a tabloid bandwagon. There were rumours that she was doing this way before she started touring...so the 18 month procedure has been met.
