Heard rumours of him having his own night somewhere?

any potential truth in this?

would be fairly surprised, but he obviously had a good year last year!

Was there a rumour that Pacha wanted him? Or is this another thing I have dreamt about?
I'd imagine ENTER. will be after him. Loved him on the Terraza.

Haha well a 'few' obviously now equals all of them.

can't imagine him being able to do something every week don't see him at the carola, loco dice etc level yet.

But I suppose Solomun managed to get 2 nights

what I find crucial when establishing your own night is the support-acts you will be able to get. without some good additional names on your lineups you have to be really huge already to pull enough people. I don't see that with maceo plex, would rather see him doing multiple dates on the ENTER terrace and for dc10.
think it's too early to go solo, as it was for loco dice IMO. nobody will miss 'used and abused' as he will play fantastic gigs at the best parties on the island anyways (probably cox, cocoon and ENTER).

Yeah definitely,

I think loco dice would be better going it alone more than maceo plex at this stage so if your saying dice struggled a bit I can't imagine plex being able to hold his own.

But what do I know!?

I agree maceo IMO shouldn't do his own night but rather stay 'independent' so he can play various places every now and then (he's big, but not THAT big yet in a way I think...even though I really rate him).

it wasn't too early for dice to go solo. but if you do your first solo year and at the same time play almost every other club on the island so that punters can come see you elsewhere, you shouldn't be too surprised if your residency fails.

Agree 100%. Used + Abused IMO was rocking in June at Ushuaia when it first started. Went one night and they were packed up to the pool. I know July & August = more competition, but Loco just played away far too much, as did Luciano. I have no idea why Ushuaia turned away from Loco Dice and Luciano (or if it was the other way around). But the simple fact is there were too many nights other than their residencies you could catch them at. Both examples of the DJ swapping thing going too extremes.

The way I see the Maceo Plex story is he is a big crowd puller but nowhere near enough to start his own night. If you look at Jamie Jones etc for example. When Paradise started there was more than just Jamie Jones that was attractive to the night, it was the whole Hot Creations crew. I don't see that Maceo has that 'crew' that would cement a new night. Like someone said above he is independent and plays different clubs/nights which in my eyes is one of his advantages.

you have hit the nail on the head there.

as someone mentioned above, the key to having your own night is to have a very strong supporting cast with you. In my view that was one of the reasons that Enter did well. Hawtin is without doubt a bigger name than Plex but he wouldn't have been anywhere near as succesful at Enter if his supporting acts weren't as strong at they were (ironically Plex was a big part of that).

I agree - i think his strength currently is that he he has that freedom to play a lot of differing nights and, from the clubs/promoters point of view he will pull a significant number of people.

But is he at the level where he can have his own night? not yet.

Did dice do that badly? Was packed out when we went in June, couldn't imagine that not continuing through the season??

he didn't do 'that badly'. but for a name like him, not filling the venue week after week in ibiza (and especially in ushuaïa) is just not good enough - simple as that. also, while i agree the first dates were surely busy enough, it needs to be said ushuaïa did a good job in making the actual dancefloor smaller for both dice's and luciano's nights when they knew it wouldn't be full (you can take a rough guess when you see how much was sold in pre-sale).

to put it simple - it just wasn't busy enough and he definitely hurt himself playing so many gigs away from ushuaïa.

of course he didn't fail miserably . but for a club like ushuaia it's a very simple question: will loco dice bring more people in his second season or do we think buuren or hardwell bring in more punters? that's all that counts. I'm not even criticising this. do i like this? no, but hey - it's ushuaia.

Maceo Plex fits the terrace at Enter really well. Hope he continues to play there this season
