Lunch report

After my omlette DISASTER yesterday  I decided to opt for a jacket potato, no butter, with chilli con carne on the top.

Health gurus - is this healthy? I am trying to lose a bit of weight, nothing drastic, just a few pounds, so I want to totally eliminate any unnecessary fat in my diet (i.e normally I would have had chilli and cheese on the potato  ).

where did u get it from?

i had Wholemeal Spaghetti with cherry toms, in a basil & White wine dressing topped with swedish meatballs.

I think, dont quote me though, the sauce from the chilli is not the best thing for you. But well done for cutting out the butter and cheese :D

if you make yr own lunch, you'll feel like youve done something to get yr self going in the morn. plus, if u make everything as fresh as poss, you know exactly what youre putting in.

PM for make yr own lunch in 15mins in the morning recipes.

It was tough 8O I debated going to Tescos first to get some low-fat cheese to put on it, but I thought to myself "No Rebecca you can live without cheese for one day in your life surely!"

I know what you mean, I love cheese, and find it very difficult to resist, so I usually treat myself about every 6 months. Why is it that stuff that's bad for you tastes sooooo good.

Am back on a healthy eating thing this week (bar the sausage, mash and brandy yesterday) been having chicken salad for lunch, and griddled chicken and roasted veg for dinner, yummy! :P

I'm not sure if I can. You can get cheese board selections in some Ibiza supermarkets for about 5€ which I find very hard to walk past.

Mmmm... semi curado.

And I found a tub of Philadelphia mixed with yoghurt (sounds bad but tastes good) that's even lower fat than low fat Philadelphia.

Result :!:

I had another salad today - spinach, shredded veggies, and feta .

Chilli is fine as long as when you're making it you drain off the excess fat. You can make it even better for weightloss by using Quorn mince (an acquired taste - although I grew to get used to it during my diet phase - when I lost three stone!) or turkey mince (which is super lean). Low fat cheese is just nasty - it doesn't melt properly. I'd rather have half the portion of normal cheese than eat the low fat stuff!

THat's the theory, but if you don't grow your own tomatos or you don't buy them from a VERY reliable place you would never know how many chemical stuff has on it.

I had Peking style chicken deeep fried in batter and covered in a tasty MSG infused sauce and rice. See other post re: protly belly

DrMick, have manchego semi curado with white grapes it's delicious ;)

Thanks Silvia, I'll keep a look out for the mythical manchego.

Look out for my upcoming cheese review.

Some might say I've done plenty already.

I had one of this while walking down las ramblas observing the tourists falling in stupid tourists traps

The only type of potatoes you want to be eating if wanting to lose weight are new baby potatoes.

Chilli-con-carni is definately off the menu too.

It's be laden with salt/sugar.

To be fair it's very rare for me to eat that for lunch, usually get salads and sarnies from M&S.. however I have a hangover and grease was needed!

Oops

What would you say a good healthy lunch would be if I dont like salads? Maybe something like a pasta Ive made the night before? Or good old sandwiches? :?

Sandwiches are fine if made with 'stone ground' or 'wholemeal' bread. Coupled with any healthy filling - egg/tuna/chicken/turkey/cheese (but soft cheese not hard types like double Gloucester etc). Don't worry too much about Mayo either cos whether high or low fat, both contain mostly good fats ;)

Pasta is ok, but not ideal - it's too refined and contains very little nutrients. Long grain or brown rice is much better. Be careful not to store in fridge more than 2/3 days. Be even more careful if not refrigerated in warm weather too. I was eating it last week freshly cooked from night before but because it wasn't kept cool, it was going off and giving me bad stomach.

Can't really think what else to suggest for lunch, other than salads?
