This summer heralds the launch of yet another new clubbing venture in Ibiza, Love in Playa d’en Bossa.
Taking over the entire Somny and Kiss complex, the Love Club hopes to appeal to a new generation of clubbers in Ibiza by promoting themselves as the first British superclub on the island.
Run by DJ/producer Otiz F. Angel and pal Jason McCarthy, the Love Organisation - which claims to be the fastest growing club brand in Europe - started life as an after-hours venue in Shoreditch for people like Puscha, following a short stint promoting parties at El Divino.
The police eventually shut down Love due to new licensing laws, so they sold their lease on the building and moved to a new venue - in Hamburg.
The German Love Club - located on Grosse Freiheit, the Hamburg equivalent of Oxford Street - has been a runaway success, so much so that Otiz and co. have now opened up venues in Krakow in Poland, with others planned in Barcelona, Berlin, Rome and Miami, as well as Ibiza.
“We’ve managed to expand from having one club to something in the region of six clubs in roughly a year and a half,” said Otiz.
“It’s vast - and we’re still growing. Everybody seems to love the concept of Love and the philosophy behind it.”
That philosophy is to arrive a stranger, become a friend and leave as family - the old rave ethos of peace and love and all that jazz.
Otiz says the most important thing is the vibe and working with the right people.
“It’s important the people working for us have the right attitude, the right door staff greeting people on the way in, good bar staff, it all has to be wholesome,” he said.
“We’re the first British superclub on the island so we have a completely different way of doing things.
“We want to be the alternative. The problem with Ibiza is that people take too much from the tourists, so tourists are finding other places to go.
“Our contribution to the island is to try and keep it real and the prices reasonable.”
With the Barcelona-based production company and Love partners Locomia renovating the Playa d’en Bossa venue, you can expect a plush main room with a VIP balcony and an authentic Ibicenco outdoor terrace on the roof.
Love will also be opening the Love Lounge, a street-side bar open from around 8pm for pre-club cocktails and general lounging.
“Eventually we will move into things like CDs and merchandise,” said Otiz.
“In fact, I will be releasing our first Love CD this summer called ‘Summer Of Love’, which we’ll be selling all over the island.
“It’s a style of music called Jaava - a cross between electro, trance and funky house.”
