what happened to this thread..............:?

i was hoping for some book discussion. i love books like this.:D

others also like catch-22, animal farm, to kill a mockingbird.

1984 is also my favourite book.

Orwell is my favourite author by a mile, read loads of his stuff.

Down and out in London and Paris is a fantastic book too!

Perhaps they took it off because the person who started it was "shouting" at everyone.

I remember reading Animal Farm at school & Lord of the Flies, the conch! Classic!

Yossarian is mental! (wel he is actually yeah! sort of!:? 8O )

i found catch-22 really hard going at the start. read it for the second time and it was even better.

haev you read brave new world or utopia

I like mental though  It is heavy going at the start, I still have a few chapters to go....

No I haven't read them...

I only read lord of the flies about 3 months ago, really enjoyed it. I kind of remembered the film as a kid so decided to read the book.

Bec has just lent me to kill a mockingbird, so I'll be able to discuss this in depth in a few weeks.

And I plan to make 84 and animal farm travelling with me so I can read them

brave new world is excellent cos its full of hidden meanings/symbolism, like a film that you just wanna watch again and again and every time you see somethin different (;))

with utopia, the thing you have to remember is when it was written and who by and the context within which he wrote it. bearing that in mind it is an stunning book.

Lynch

George Orwell also wrote a book called Burmese Days based upon his time spent in the East, may be fitting for your travels. Good book too.

aww nice one, will defiantly look into this:)

Jon, how are you getting on with Captail Corelli?

To Kill a Mockingbird is brilliant. Did you know the author Harper Lee was best mates with Capote? She's the dark haired bird in the film who goes around looking disapproving all the time. They were friends from childhood and Capote is said to be the inspiration for the characer of Dill in To Kill a Mockingbird.

you are a bundle of knowledge:)

I'm not far from the end now, I would have finished it had the last 2 weekends not been complete carnage. I'm at the stage where the doctor had just spoken to Palegia about getting involved with the captin, and he has just spoken to the captin about the same thing. 'Love is temporary insanity' - I love all these sayings:)

I think the Italians are just about to tell the germans to f**k off and join up with us, I think, will find out on way home

i went to the theatre the other week to see a performance of To Kill a Mockingbird. it is the first time i've seen a film or visual performance of any kind that was better than when i read book. twas superb!:D

You must read Animal Farm. It is The classic allegory.
(and very helpful in understanding the Russian revolution )

surely everyone has seen the animated version of it from 50s or 60s..........truly brilliant piece of art!:D :D

(normally always on at xmas too)
