london fashion week: debate

Then why are there so many sites out there with young girls (under 16) going on about how they hate themselves and posting pictures of extremely slim models up, saying they'd kill to look like them?

Very sad.
This harkens back to what I was saying earlier. It's not a problem of showing these girls pictures of skinny models. It's a problem of no one bothering to teach them the mental tools they need to survive in this world, self-esteem among them.

I've seen plenty of pictures of skinny, washboard-abbed guys whose figure I'd more than love to have. I don't hate myself for it, though... in fact, if anything, it keeps me from letting my weight go to far.

Realizing it might be different for girls, I think you can still instill a healthy attitude in girls to accept that, yes, those models are skinny; I might not be the same but I could be if I tried; and either way I'm a worthy human being.

It's not the images or models that are "sad". It's people's reaction to them.

so what are you saying morbs??

its ok to be a heffer??:?

No, I'm saying people should a) accept who they are but b) accept that they can improve.

It's very easy to say that bit when you're dealing with young girls who hate themselves due to being forced to see images of unrealistic bodies, it's very hard to break that cycle of self-loathing.

I think society is always blaming someone else for their problems... its very easy to point at skinny models and blame them.. or blame gothic culture for school shootings or blame the teacher because the student doesn't get a good mark

Not so sure on this one. I agree that there are deeper problems but holding unrealistically thin and quite clearly unhealthy models up as an ideal is extremely dangerous.
