London Address Book Secrets

Well, I think clubs have been well and truly nailed on this forum and so have many of the well known places to eat and drink....but what about the less well known?

I'm a Londoner born and bred (Cue - knees up muva braan/my old maan's a dustmaan etc etc) but obviously I still go to/discover new places in this quality heaving metropolis of ours….

So – has anyone got any undiscovered ‘pearls of wisdom’ on top places in London that should defo be on the old ‘to do’ list?

I’ll give you:-

The Crown in Islington – best Sausage & Mash to be had in London, good crowd and nice sofas!
The Albion in Islington – just round the corner from the Crown and has a great beer garden (thats' it though, not much else to be said for it)
The Gutshot in Clerkenwell – for a game of poker!
1 Aldwych – for the best cocktails in London (bar none)
The Morgan Arms – off Mile End Road – Actually The Evening Standards pub of the year which might have done for it being undiscovered but worth a visit!
The Garrison – Bermondsy Street – another Gastro pub, top banana!
The Refinery – Brook Street – best barbers in town!
Alfie’s Antiques Market – Marylebone, quality tat and a nice little rooftop café

Any more for any more? :?:

Good list there Benson...Ive been to the Morgan Arms....very nice indeed. Usually go to the Refinery for a massage now and then but never been for a hair cut. I think £70 for a short back and sides is a bit OTT though.

Andrew Edmunds is a small restaurant on Lexington St in Soho which many people dont know about. Well worth a visit.

Tony's Cafe on Northcoate Road, Clapham for the best Sunday breakfast in town. Go for the extra large Super Breakfast if your feeling hungry.
Im sure this one will have much competition.

Surely Fire in Vauxhall should be added to anyones list who hasnt been before......you have to go at least once!!!

The special 'Duckie' dates at the Royal V____ Tavern get my vote.
The alternative comedy there is world class bordering on sick! They even put on nights as far afield as Sydney.
I've seen women making love to filing cabinets, freaks giving birth and lizards throwing raw meat at people.
...just a normal Friday night in V____.

AAAAAAAAAAARGH I give up!

I've tried my damndest to make these chick tickers catch on but to no avail.

Bored of being quiet now!

...and a bit cross with myself for not being able to hold out for longer than 2 days.

Give up on the chicks, it's not gonna catch on  Amazed you managed to stay quiet for 2 days, but knew you'd be back to normal for Friday!! ;)

Some of my London haunts:

The Crown on Clrekenwell Green - Lovely gastropub on a paved square, great in summer, fab food, and a cool upstairs room. It's also the pub where Karl Marx began the communist party (he wrote the communist manifesto in his little flat across the road).

Atum noodle bar, Smithfield / Farringdon - FINALLY somewhere I can get authentic Malaysian Laksa! OMG I've missed it sooo much. My flatmate and I have eaten there 6 times in the last two weeks as the food is excellent and it's pretty cheap too :)

Havana Bar, Farringdon - best place to get a Mojito IMO, and nice feel to the place. Food is also fab, and it's new so it's not too busy (a good think in bustling Farringdon).

Nice one peeps - good suggestions and a few new places to try out...

Fire in Vauxhall - i think i'll swerve!? :D

Only been to The Refinery a couple of times SM (both times pre mates weddings for the full monty - shave, hair cut & massage)

Ya do come out feeling like a new man though! Well worth the coinage!

Closest shave i've ever had as well (unless you count the time I was on route to 'Method Air' - aaah the memories - and jumped a red light only to be pulled over by the po-lice with 30 little fellas in my glove compartment....
