Live 8 - Review and pics!

I went to the screening of Live 8 in Hyde Park. Had a pretty fun day, although it would have been better if me and Jon had been more prepared
For some stoopid reason we went to Hyde Park without a jumper/coat, with no food or drink, and with only £10 cash between us (since when did Hyde Park not have a cashpoint?  ). Not a good move. The weather was pretty cold, especially as the night drew in, and where I was only wearing a sleeveless top, jeans a flip flops I was freezing for most of the day (and now have a bl00dy horrible cold to show for it  ).
Everyone else was well prepared with picnics, blankets, waterproof jackets etc etc, but me and Jon had to make do with huddling together to try and stay warm, and we spent our only £10 on a jacket potato (half each).

Despite all this, it was a good day. The crowd was enormous, so for most of the day everyone was dancing and clapping along with the music. There was a point at about 4-5pm where the music was a bit deadbeat, and most of the crowd were sitting down, so I got a bit bored then, plus being cold and hungry wasn't helping and I wanted to go home. Luckily Jon persuaded me to hang on, and by 7pm Madonna and Velvet Revolver had the crowd rocking again
The show overran by 2 and a half hours!!! We wanted to make sure we got home ok, so we left at about 9.30pm, got home by 10.30pm, just in time to see Robbie and the rest of the performers round the night off.

Best parts were: U2 singing "One" (I myself had a little cry when this came on), Madonnna (when everyone was clapping in time to "Music"), and Velvet Revolver (Slash rocks! ).
They also showed Bon Jovi performing in Philledelphia, which had me jumping up and down to "Living on a Prayer" and swooning over Jon Bon Jovi!!! 8) :D

So in all we did have a good time, it would have been better though if we'd had alcohol :x , and been more prepared! (Coats, food... money!!)

Good point, Liam. We're all music-lovin' people so it's easy to get lost in the minutae of the performances and forget about the cause.

I signed.

People think that they can't make a difference, they can. This could change the world forever. I saw videos of of the situation in S Africa yesterday, it was horrendous, brought tears to my eyes. Yet we live in luxury with our nice cars, cloathes, clubbing etc etc.

I'm optimistic this will happen, I hope it does.

It certainly puts things into perspective, I was getting ready to go out on Saturday while I was watching it and the biggest dilemma had was what shoes to wear  You can't even begin to imagine living a life and not knowing where your next mouthful of food is going to come from.

It won't happen without regime change in a lot of african countries and that isn't gonna happen so i'm afraid your hero Sir Bob and all his cronies are just wasting there time and massaging there own already over inflated and over hyped egos.

I agree with N8, surely colonialism pretty much started all the crap in Africa, but today's situation there is mostly due to corruption and mad dictators (take Mugabe for example  ). Sure it will nice to cut their debts, but that's probably just going to mean more money going into a few people's pockets. The citizens will still be deprived. :(

I agree. Its not gping to be easy, far from it. But i don't think the G8 countries would just eradicate the debt and leave them to it, it would have to be with huge governing, and over a very long period of time. Also extremely impotant is the freedom of trade, and again this would have to be strictly governed. But I think it is possible.

Also I don't think they are `massaging´ their over hyped egos. Sure not all the acts were there solely for raising awareness. But I do believe Sir Bob and the likes of Bono geniunely do care, and if it wasn't for their unselfishness we wouldn't be discussing it now.

whether you liked the show or not is irrelevant, whether you think the artists are in it for themselves is irrelevant. what is relevent are the figures about needless death in the third world. and anything anybody can do to help change the course of history on this matter is worth it. im not one for politics, but this goes beyond politics. its time to do the right thing by these people. most people forget why europe etc. is so wealthy now. we owe these people, and the least we can do is support the cause to help them get out of the miserable hole of death and despair they are stuck in.

and for the record, the only cringeworthy swearing i heard was from madonna  ruined the performance imho.

We don't owe "them" anything. Survival of the fittest i reckon and to be honest i'm a lot more bothered about things closer to home like old people being murdered in the street by the youth of today and people living on and starving on the streets and the gradual ruination of the country i'm living in myself.

Did you ever get that greatest hits remix album? I think it was called 'All mixed up'?

One of my all time faves. 8)

Init. People need to start caring about and voicing concerns and making themselves heard about what they think is important. Not what the latest TV/Media frenzy celeb fronted charity bandwagon crusade is telling the sheeplike masses to jump on.
