Life plan was put into action yesterday...I've found a really good 'teach yourself Spanish' cd which goes on forever and I'm coming on in leaps and bounds already.

Any tips for good courses/books/cds to get when I've finished this that teach you at intermediate level? :?

Ta! :D

I have been doing mine since last year - borrowed a mate's CD (and forgot to give it back;) ) they are really good CD's arent they? I couldnt sit in a classroom environment to learn a language... :? havent got the capacity to sit and learn from a teacher anymore..

Try to listen spanish music and watch tv in spanish.
Ask Pilchard to talk to you in spanish for a bit everyday
Post in the spanish forum for a master in slang

Robder I bought a book/CD ages ago and I didn't find them much use initially, but since I did a beginners guide to Spanish the book/CD is a lot more useful - it's best to start some course alongside learning at home.

I did an 8 week beginners course @ the YMCA on Tottenham Court Road (they also do intermediate/advanced courses) and now I've signed up for a year long course @ Thames University - your local area will offer similar courses.

Oooh good - I've got competition then! I'd best get my skates on! :D

You'd reccommend this tcr place then?

That's a great new Sar :D
Further in the time I'll recommend you short books and spanish music. I realised I had an acceptable level of english when I could understand songs easely ;)

reading websites in spanish helps no end as well and even if when you're starting and you can't understand much, it still helps you to familiarise yourself with the language. there are loads but the BBC has a spanish language news site (as well as loads of learn spanish tools thru the main site)

buena suerte!!

Yep I really enjoyed the beginners course I did, altho I didn't think much to our teacher, that's why I wanted to start a more structured course for next year and at the end of the year if I pass I get a qualification :D

This time next year we'll just be PMing in Spanish Sil  ;)

This is totally true. Anyone on here can remember my first posts in this site three years ago? ;)

i've mentioned it in the past, but i started a spanish course and ended up dropping out cause i was too tired after work to then go and sit in class for 3 hours. works for some, but not for me. ended up getting chased for unpaid fee's as well (my fault I know) which added to my distaste for further learning (i should have had fee paid by Learning Scotland but missed the boat by 2 days and they wouldn't budge on it)

got cd's and books just need to get back on it again, definately helped the time i spent at college though. i have a bit more confidence trying out simple phrases in Ibiza now.

I wouldn't personally, some of the course was useful but some of it was of no relevance to beginners Spanish, also our teacher was pretty rubbish. The Gollum has been doing one @ Balham College and hers sounded much more useful and relevant.

Cos I wanted one closer to home for next year I just did a google search for Spanish Courses Ealing and the ones @ Thames University came up.

Stephen (Spunkymonkey) has been doing one as well but I can't remember where his was, somewhere pretty central tho.

a simple tip........

change the language of spotlight, your phone, your ipod, etc to spanish..........that way you can't escape learning.

My Boring Tip

Microsoft Word (if you have it) has a translator tool - It's doesn't translate perfectly by any means, However It does help to get an understanding of conversations when you're really struggling....... My own pigeon Spanish / German (and memory loss) made reading the "Space is Dead" (German thread) difficult on a Monday morning - Word helped out....

Told you it was a boring tip - Sorry

Yes, you have lots of competition!!!

I did a beginners 1 course at Canning House, Belgrave Square which was 10 weeks. It was really good. Im just coming to the end of Beginners 2 which was another 10 weeks. It has been good but I have gotten very frustrated with it as I have missed about 4 weeks due to being away on hols and with work and everytime I go back I have fallen behind and its so hard to get involved. The courses are good though and I think its around £130 for the 10 weeks.

Mine was a 10 week Holiday Spanish course at Lambeth College's Streatham Centre. So prob not very convenient for you Rob!

I managed to sell two CD´s at my new CD stall (behind Mambo folks, open from 5pm every day plug, plug) to a Spanish dude and conducted the entire converstaion in pigeon Spanish. Guess I was lucky he was patient or perhaps he had no idea what I was saying and bought the CDs to get away. Or out of sympathy!
