Lady Sovereign

I think that if Beckiboo, a potential customer, is put off by her current look (and many others will be, no doubt, whether you think that is correct or not) then surely she is not doing her music justice? Unless, however, you think that her chav look is a look that will gain her the most record sales, then she isn't doing her music justice by appealing to the widest audience initially.

So they needs to present and image that's not hers? Like a manufactured pop band?

I must say, I'm surprised at some of the comments on here!

I haven't got a clue who you're all talking about  I just can't keep up with what the kidz of today listen to

What makes you so sure that this image of hers isn't "manufactured"?

Because it's her! Like I said, my friend booked her and spent a lot of time with her and that's how she chooses to dress and act. Why should she dress like Girls Aloud just to appease people?

I personally dont believe that her image is 100% real. She's 20 now I think and I dont know many 20 year old girls who still carry on like that.

I think her record company have created this image of a young, rough, chav-esque girl to appeal to the hoodie wearing teenagers out there.

They done it with Jentina, said she was this Irish gypsy, raised in a caravan in the roughest field in Britain or something like that, then it turned out she'd actually been to stage school and was Lee Ryans first girlfriend or something?! :?

I read "Sov's" website and they make a blatant point about her apparantly growing up in the worst council estate in Britain - why?! Should this make her more appealing to us?

She started out underground, rather than being created by some record label.

quite blatently, for her record firm, it's not just about the music

Jentina was sooooooooo hot!! :D 8)

I'm with Clara - I think Lady Sovereign's tunes and attitude are great.

Her track 'Random' featured on the Gilles Peterson mix CD on the cover of Mixmag earlier this year. Another catchy number IMO.

Hurrah! Someone who speaks sense. ;)

I've got nothing against her choice of image - not my cup of tea but each to their own

As for her music - not a fan i must say but again each to their own

For what it's worth, A little of shhh! by Sov is one of the best tracks I've ever heard. She is without doubt (in my mind at least) the most talented person coming out of the UK grime scene. If judged purely on her music and lyrics, she's gonna be massive.

Of course, the anti-chav brigade will probably write her off without listening to her; which is a shame, but if she cultivates that look, it's almost inevitible.

Other than girls aloud ( ) I generally listen to music with my ears, and so am happy to buy Lady Sov's stuff......

I guess I should have clarified. I wasn't just criticizing this image and look she's created for herself, I though the music was pretty shite too

But as was stated earlier... to each his/her own.

Hear hear Clara, I really like Lady Sovereign. She does look a bit scabby but some of her wordplay would embarass a lot of respected emcees. I kind of like the female Mike Skinner analogy.
