KM5 is a rip-off

My wife had "Filet Steak" or something like that. It was grilled to a perfect medium-rare and came with mushrooms and a sauce. Her meat was great and my side dish was better.

I had that dish on my birthday in 2003 - one of the best steaks I've ever tasted mmmmmm vkoona ;)

I didn't remember it being overly pricey, but once again I'm from London (notice a trend here?)

It was definitely expensive by Ibizan standards. The drinks prices alone made me shudder.

I went there in June. It wasnt that busy then so the service was quick and the sexy waitresses were making me extremely horney! ( Best thing about the place in my opinion ) Would admit though that the prices were a tad on the high side but a nice meal now and again isnt going to be cheap is it.

For all you Londoners (and Stephen) - the way we would justify our 50 euro/person dinners this trip was remembering that it translates to 1750 rubles, which in Moscow would be considered a mid-level restaurant

A nice dinner out for two here with wine could easily run you 5000-6000 rubles (100-120 pounds)

i think what people perceive to be a reasonable price is obviously some function of their income (which usually has some relationship with where they live).

although for me, my decision never to go to km5 has so far had nothing to do with its prices!

I personally resent paying good money for a restaurant that claims to have a great vegetarian selection which actually doesn't and then can't even be bothered to give proper descriptions of their dishes.

Nothing to do with income.

Anyway, I'll gladly spend good money in the likes of La Torretta in D'alt Villa as I know I'll get amazing food and service.

KM5 to me seemed like posers paradise though.

I think you are all wrong, the londoners and you, MOrbyd ;)
You can't compare prices with your own place, you should compare prices with the country you are visiting. If I go to London and I start to compare prices with Barcelona I will spend most of my days at BurgerKing having BigMacs 8O
So, if I go to London I should compare prices of restaurants with other london restaurants, if you know what I mean.

And I partially agree with Robder, it's a touristic ressort (an expensive one) but you can have quality meals for less thant that. OF course, forgot the oriental decors (why do you want oriental decors in Spain) and the sexy waiters but at the end of the day it's about the food, the wine and the service (and not if the service is good looking)

In their defence re menu up until about 4 years ago the menu was purely in Spanish, they didn't even have English translation and none of the staff spoke English, it's only as more tourists have started to visit it that they have started giving English translation and they do leave a lot to be desired but they are trying  ;)

My twopenneth (for what its worth)

- the food in KM5 is excellent. Particularly the fois gras and steak Personally I don't think the drinks are particularly expensive. The wine list I found very reasonable. The quality of the ingeredients I found to be very good. The setting is lovely.

-the service is pretty rubbish. the waiting staff are all very nice, but take hours to bring your food/clear the table. Last year they lost our entire booking and we had to wait nearly 2 hours for a table  For this reason I'm not sure if I would go again.

- and for the record I'm not someone who just goes to poncy restaurants. I have eaten in little shacks in Kenya and the Caribbean as well as some of the top restaurants in London. I like eating in GOOD restaurants, and this is not necessarily related to cost. I do think however that if you are in a group that KM5 is an excellent option for an evening out. Just don't turn up starving hungry cause it might take a while to get your food

I still think you shouldn't compare the prices with London. And when you go a restaurant and you are paying 50€ you must expect excelent service, at least here in Spain.

Scoobie, I consider myself a little gourmet and I really don't care on spending lots of money in restaurant as long as it's worth. And for the record, ask Barbie and Jamie about my regular restaurant, probably your little kenya restaurants would look top class compared to it

i'm not comparing it with anywhere ;) and I've said in what I've written that I probably won't go there again because of the service ;)

As for the Kenya place- I doubt it- it was a mud hut where I sat on the dirt floor and ate stew the lady cooked over a hole in the floor

You've not quite understood us, Silvia. It's not a matter of comparing the prices between a Moscow or London restaurant and an Ibiza one. It's just that, if you're used to spending $100 on a fancy dinner at home, you don't feel so bad spending $100 on a fancy dinner in Ibiza even though you know (as you pointed out) that it's an expensive price in local terms. (that's why I was saying that KM5 was 'pricey', though I thought worth it)

You definitely can have great meals in Ibiza for less. This was the first year that my wife and I visited all these "Ibiza experience" (as Stephen put it) places, just because we wanted to try different things. We've had plenty of great (cheaper) meals in local places in Talamanca, San An, Ibiza, Santa Eularia.

Lost in translation again   , altho I did get you are not going again ;)

OK, I'm not comparing the odd 52 with that kenya hole, altho it's a real experience aswell, in an urban way ;)

And Morbyd, Understood the comparaison thing :D

For me the service is important, and bad service ruins a meal. For the same reason I won't ever go back to another restaurant in Ibiza town which I 'd read good reviews about on here (sorry can't remember the name, its got a big garden). they brought me the wrong meal, never brought our desserts at all and then took 2 hours to bring the bill (we had to ask for it 6 times and were very close to leaving without paying!)

Scoobie, we are twin souls when it's about restaurants 8O

I hate bad service. Nowadays, unfortunatlly, you are not surprised to find bad service (usually trendy sexy girls who doesn't have a clue of what's politness and who seem they are making a favour to you), but you are to find an excelent one

Anyway, if you ever come to Barcelona I'll give you some secret names ;)

Jezzz....

surely its all subjective...one persons "expensive" is anothers "reasonable"....

agree with the comments made about people going places cos they've read they're the places to be...croc of sh1t really....

I went to Sa Trinxa (sp) last year, had a lovely meal, beautiful setting, didn't really notice it being p1sstake prices...mates then went a few days later saying they thought it was average and a rip-off....
