Khumaras

So... Our hotel this year in San An Bay is a 4/5 minute walk from a place I've heard much about, all good may I add.

But I've never experienced it myself and wondered if anybody here could shed any light on it? It's called Khumaras, and seems like a Cafe Mambo sunset-type bar? Looks very decent and imagine I'll be spending many sunsets there! Can anyone recommend it?

Definitely. We stayed round the corner from it at the Millord and it's a great little bar. Far more chilled out than the mayhem round at Mambo etc

Reminds me of what Cafe Del Mar was like before it went all sparkly as part of the 'sunset strip' Well worth a visit with a better crowd and great sunset.

I prefer Kumharas to any other sunset bar in san antonio. Real Ibiza vibes. Good guest DJs too (DJ Hell...) and the food is simply outstanding!

What do you mean by sparkly? I'm a huge fan of their mix compilations and can't wait to finally visit it for the first time!

the whole 'sunset strip', which means all the sunset cafés on the stretch where café del mar is, with savannah, café mambo, mint etc., has become much more polished and a magnet for tourists over the last few years. quite a few people on this forum still know café del mar in its original form, when it was just a very simple place, with nothing but a bit of rocks and beach in front of it and it obviously had a very laid back feel to it back then. the vibe has changed a lot since then. the music's still good, it's still nice to go for a drink to see the sunset (it's a must do for newbies for sure), but those who remember the old days of CdM nowadays often seek for other places to watch the sunset.

Really how far a walk is this place from say ocean beach club?

We are stayin in azuline sanfora (again), meant to visit in 2013 but never got round to it so this being our 4th visit, it's a must! we have walked to Relish before but we thought we were lost lol is it further than that?

So roughly 30 mins walk.. That's do-able.. What time do you need to get there by in September to get a table for sunset?

Normally (if its not a special event or something) 1h / 1h30 before sunset is enough.
Although if you want a "first line" table (not necessary in my opinion), you better be there earlier.

Some pictures of pitures from eary 90`s Cafe del mar that i found last week while looking for old flyers :)

Love Kumharas! Last year we ate in the 'restaurant' bit too - really nice food, attentive service although this seating area is not frontline for sunset it didn't bother us. After tea and the sunset we moved to the bar area where they had some live producer/DJs and like a laser show over the water, and visuals projecting onto the tower. Crepes there very good and good value too if you just want a snack. Well worth the taxi fare from Santa Eulalia. Enjoy
