I saw him in Miami in January... heavy tribal. wasn't too impressed.

wasn't he previously addicted to crystal meth, and so his sets went really dark for a while? might be a bit lighter now i guess...

huge in the USA, not really sure what that tells you

He's not THAT huge, but he does have a following.... but that's probably because he plays mostly in the USA and has been around for a long time.

Erm, I think he is! (Or certainly used to be at least).

It was always him and Tenaglia as the 'Kings' of the New York house scene. (As he's scared of flying, he rarely plays overseas.) I assume the well documented chrystal meth addiction didn't do wonders for his career or motivation.

As I assume you've seent his before, Pups, I'll repost my previosu thoughts on the man...

He rates as one of those DJ's which I'd loooove to see, merely because I think he has a very unique "big room" sound and he's well lauded in certain circles (i.e. see what all the fuss is about). And his sets abroad are, as already said, quite rare.

Not that I think he'll be any good though (if that makes sense).

All his remixes I hear are twelve minute long "normal" (i.e. pop) mixes with thick tribal drums and faint vocals.

I heard he's well known (i.e. it's his "Van Helden clears the Space Terrace" moment) to play an 8 beat sample, with no effects of change, for 20 minutes or so.

Hmmm

i heard him play a coupla years back in a very sweaty very underground New York gay club. very tribal, very proggy. i loved it but can imagine on in a less appropriate atmosphere he could bore you to tears.

a bit of a legend though so maybe take the opportunity to check the big man out

He was very big in NYC. Probably still is.

I guess I assumed his star had fallen a bit as when we saw him in Miami the club wasn't all that busy. It was a gay night and that's always been his core constituency.

I quite enjoyed the tribal beats he played at first but then it begins to feel like they go on forever. A bit tedious.

I went to see him with an open mind and was very excited about experiencing a bit of after hours NYC.

Sorry to say it was officially the WORST DJ set I've ever heard in my life.

(Probably not what you want to hear but true I'm afraid :? )

:? :? Quandry!!

Hmmm - I keep thinking to myself - f**k it! Its the only club night I am going to manage to get to in the next few weeks - so I will be on such a massive high anyway that the possibility of just dancing and being a naughty puppy could detract from any negative feelings..... :?

well, if you go with low expectations, the least he can do is make you dance for a bit, and you'll be happy!

sounds like he plays the kind of music you need to be fairly beeped for..

Go Pups, he is a true legend, his sets did go a bit off the rails cos he was addicted to everything and anything but if he's on top form he's one of those DJs that will keep you dancing all night without knowing anything that he's playing.

He played @ Heaven the other month and friends who went were really impressed.

And anyway what else are you going to do on Boxing Day if you're not clubbing  ;)

Apparently he had a lock and chain on the third deck in his DJ booth and a sign warning visiting DJs "THIS IS JUNIOR'S HOUSE!"
