July Clubbing Advice/Suggestions???

Hey,

I am looking for advice as to which clubs to go during my trip to Ibiza. I have been to Ibiza before but this time I am coming with people who have not been before and I am stuck deciding where to take them.

I will be in Ibiza from July 13 to July 20 with around 15 friends to celebrate my birthday. We are all hardcore London clubbers (four clubs and afterhours every weekend) however while I like various types of dance music (I club on the North American circuit as well as in Europe) most of my London friends live in a London-bubble (which basically means:

A. they only like FUNKY HOUSE (Hed Kandi etc.) (they definitely do NOT like Trance);
B. they will want to go to BIG and famous clubs and not to small intimate clubs).

I want to make sure that they have a good time and would therefore like some advice.

MY QUESTIONS:

1. What are the "biggest and best nights" during the week of July 13 - July 20 for people who like funky house?

Most of them will only be in Ibiza for the weekend of Fri 14, Sat 15, Sun 16, Monday 17 July (which means they will not be able to go to La Troya at Amnesia) and so I want to make sure that we hit the "biggest and best" clubs during that time (understanding that "best" completely depends on personal taste).

2. So, if you were a FUNKY HOUSE lover and you were in Ibiza on the nights of Friday July 14 to Sunday July 17 which clubs would you go to and on which nights? PACHA? PRIVILEGE? EL DIVINO? What are the best clubs from the 14-17 and, specifically, what is the best/biggest club night on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 of that week?

I was thinking of the following:

Friday 14: Pete Tong at Pacha;
Saturday 15: Hed Kandi at El Divinio
Sunday 16: Space ??? I'm not sure where to go on this night.
Monday: Manumission
Tuesday: Either Defected @ Pacha or the Carl Cox opening party at Space??

What do you think? Any better suggestions? Is it worth going to Amnesia during this time?

Hi Raf!

Here's my two centimos:

Friday July 14

Pure Pacha looks like it's also going to be a F*ck me I'm Famous night, which means it will be totally rammed. The vibe will be good but you'll have to get in early and suffer much shoving from pushy Frenchmen.

Consider Made In Italy at Amnesia which will be less crowded yet still have a funky housey terrace. Miss Moneypenny's at El Divino is a consistent performer but I never have a good night in El Divino so I wouldn't recommend it.

Saturday July 15

If you're still up you MUST go to Matinee at Space during the day, which is gay as but very funky and housey. Hed Kandi @ El Div is ok. Def Mix @ Pacha is a bit better. Consider having a rest night.

Sunday July 16

The only place to go is Space, however the funky house quotient will be low. The exception is the sunset terrace where djs like Jon Ulysses and Tom Novy will play accessible fun music, peaking at midnight. It's quite light and fluffy earlier in the day too.

Monday July 17

Manumission is unlikely to play much funky house and you could walk around for a long time before finding something you like. Release Yourself at Pacha would be a safer bet.

Tuesday July 18

However Manumission's Carry On at Space (a.m.) is tops. There might not be much funky house but it will be funky and there's likely to be house, if that makes sense.

Defected at Pacha will be better for your crew than Carl Cox at Space, which will mostly be banging techno.

You should avoid F*ck me I'm famous. It's too rammed and not so funky. Don't expect to dance easily on that night.

I would like to try Penelope on friday or saturday (Balrearic people) Do you recommend it?

I didn't go to BP at Penelope last year, but from reports I hear it was a good night.

However McRackin reckons that there's been some problems in the negotiations between the promoters and the club this year, so it remains to be seen what might happen this year.

When I find out, you will.

Thanks very much to Dr. Mick and El Gringo for their prompt and most helpful replies. As most of my crowd is gay we will def be doing Matinee (shame most wont be around for La Troya). I have never done MANUMISSION but I was told that the COCO LOCO room is gay (or at least a popular gay hangout). Is this still true?

An alternative to WLS at Space on the Sunday is Penelope, where they had Scandal on weekly last year. Scandal used to be Pacha's occasional Sunday gay night but moved when Penelope opened. The music will be funky house, I should expect.

By the way, having checked the Amnesia web page I note that last year a new La-Troyaesque event called "Staff" was supposed to have taken place on Sundays on the terrace. Did this come to fruition? Was it a success? The Amnesia web page does not have a 2006 calendar yet so I don't know if it is on this year however there is no listing for Amnesia on Sundays on the Ibiza Spotlight calendar. Will Staff be back on this year and, if so, is it well attended?

Re: Staff party, I never went and don't know anyone who did. Or if they did, they didn't tell me about it. It was probably sh1t.

Re: the Coco Loco at Manumission, I've had some brilliant nights there and yes it does have a definite lean towards the moustachioed end of the clubbing spectrum.

Now don't go assuming that they are gay just coz they are in Coco Loco! ;) The bald, clean shaved one undoubtedly but the other two could very well be part of the hetero Electro Funk brigade -- certainly I know of no self-respecting gay boy who would venture outside looking like an extra from Pirates of the Caribbean...but maybe it's a Spanish thing... :)
