Hey peeps,

Im heading out for my first trip to the Island for two weeks, end of July/beginning of August.

Just wondering if anyone has been at this time before and how hot its gonna be? Also if you've got any tips for cooling down, they would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

:D

My advice:
drink lots and lots and lots of water.
Avoid drinking alcohol during the day time.
Cover your head with a hat or a bandana or whatever during the day time
Avoid sunbathing from 12.00 to 18.00
Use sun protection during the day time, even if you are not sunbathing.

That doesn't help too much to cool down but at least you will avoit to get burn ;)

Thanks Sylvia... I don't see much sun during the year up here in Scotland, so my skin get burnt kinda quickly if exposed to the sun. Im planning on Factor 30+ and getting a nice summery hat so fingers crossed all will be fine.

Can you get a ferry from Es Cana to Formentera or do you have to go into Ibiza Town or Santa Eulalia? :D

Don't forget to use your factor 30+ ALL THE TIME, even sitting in the shade you can get burn ;)

I'm not sure if you can get the ferry from Es Cana, I always get the one from Ibiza Town that drops you at la Sabina (FOrmentera harbour).

Well thats something helpful to know. I never knew you could get burnt even in the shade. :? eek!

Im thinking more along the lines of Factor 40+ now. Would rather come back with no tan than be really burnt and sore all holiday.

I shall look into the ferry thing. Thanks for your help chick! :D

If you use the search option above you'll find lots of posts about Formentera with lots of info
And if you want to see some pics look at my pics of two summers ago ;)

It looks absolutely gorgeous. So idyllic!

We are staying in Es Cana... alot of people say it is very British, however, I stayed in alcudia in mallorca last year and it was full of british and quite tacky....but I still enjoyed it. What do you think to Es Cana? :? :D

Yesss, if the air is hot your skin burns even if you are in the shade, be carefull especially next to the sea, the hot air and salt is a very dangerous combination for very withe skins.
Cheers.

Thankfully Im not too white...just don't see much sun during the year. Hopefully all your responses will see me safe and unburnt.

I burnt my bum a few times last year in mallorca.. the reflection of the sea onto me when I was paddling. Killer. Good job I can laugh now!

funky lady,
being an Italian I have quite dark skin, and never get burned, but in Ibiza I nearly did, and in the shop they suggested for my skin a 12 protection!!!
I never used any in my life!
So really get a high protection

Having dark skin doesn't mean you don't get burn or your skin doesn't get damaged. The sun (thanks to polution and all that catastrophes) is every year more and more dangerous. I'm pale and I don't get burn but it's not normal that, just in two hours I get brown like I did last weekend 8O

I never worry about sun cream - just slap on a bit of oil, cook and enjoy - BUT only an hour the first day, 2 the second etc and initially not between 12.00 and 15.00hrs.

That's not very sensible, Tony 8O

Those pics are great Tony, thanks.

Es Cana looks quite nice actually... not all that touristy really.

I think I might be tempted to use suncream, despite your recommendations. Don't fancy the prospect of looking like a lobster all holiday and hardly being able to move. :-)

There's a word in Portuguese for the heat caused by extreme hot days, it's mormaço. And, believe me, if you're too white, do use sunscreen when hiding in a shadow, because mormaço can cause you severe sun burns.

It's not the air that will burn you, but the reflexion of the sun rays on the sand.
