John Digweed @ Insane Pacha

has anyone checked out digweed on this night yet? Any info on what time he came on and how long he played for? How does the musical style mix with the other djs sharing the night?

I'm just so sad that they have flung him in with MK to fill the club. MK attracts a really awful crowd in UK and his music is really not my bag. So unless Pacha stays open to 7.30-8am and there's much more deeper stuff it isn't really a night for me any more... and I'm a big fan of Digweed.

well there are 3 dates over the whole summer when digweed is on and MK isn't there...come on one of those :)

also, pacha was open until 8am for solomun+1 opening on sunday night.

Yeah they have Reboot (who I really don't like personally) on instead most nights MK isn't there, apart from on 11th July which is out unfortunately due commitments at home. So will most likely give this one a swerve this year. However ... looking at it, am thinking WOTG takeover on 20/6 looks the best overall line-up of the Season for Insane (imho) - so if that worked out, should be a really good one. Will keep in mind !

agree 20th june looks VERY tasty. am no fan of reboot neither. before and after 'caminando' he just doesn't exist on my map.

He is also not a nice guy either!

regarding the comments above - yes, John is on great form currently. He was ace when he played for us last month. I also think that, regardless of who is on before him, he will take it in the direction he wants. If he plays for 2 hours/3 hours or 4 hours it doesn't matter, he will still smash it.

The comments regarding MK and the crowd in the UK i agree with. However i feel that that may naot necessarily be the same in Ibiza, and especially in Pacha.

I quite like the mix in some ways, housey at the start and then deeper! My guess is MK will be on for the peak time crowds. Pacha has to balance a lot of things to make a night like Insane work IMO, as a full-on underground night only ain't always going to work (i.e. WOTG last year). Take a night like the 13 June. My guess would be something like Resident: 23:59-01.00, MK: 01:00 - 02:30, DJ Sneak: 02:30 - 04:00, Digweed 04:00-05:30/6AM, Reboot: 5:30/6AM to close......

As a "bling & booty" favourite, MK's there to keep the VIP tables booked out. Diggers would be so much better smashing up the Terraza or the Discoteca @ Space like the last time I saw him. He's got a "proper techno" edge (unlike his former m8 Sasha) and his big room peak-time sets (4-6am) are great. I just really dislike vocal house these days (except the odd amazing Solomun rework) - being one who always played the 'dub mix' even 20 years ago. When you hear a decent 'Bedrock' warmup (always devoid of anything more than vocal snippets or a rare male vocal) followed by a Digweed main room set, I just can't imagine being in any way in the right mood for JD after 2 hours of sing-a-long house music.

I think for the majority of people who will listen to most modern dance music and enjoy it well enough, it'll be fine. But for those of us with less flexible tastes, it's a big disappointment to see Digweed paired up with house rather than techno (as in the relatively recent Carl Cox Revolution days), especially in a club with very limited choice in the earlier hours. Not that I generally bother to arrive at Ibiza big clubs much before 3.30 - 4am these days, but still ...

kimajy - i take your point, and i understand where you are coming from.

However, looking at it from the promoters/clubs point of view (which when discussing line ups and why DJ x and DJ y are on the same bill is how you need to look at it), i think Pacha have nailed it. Its Friday night, the crowd will be a lot more international than a week day evening and the club are offering something for everyone.....

I am quite sure that Insane will enjoy a great season to be honest. The line ups are strong (MK aside who i dont really enjoy) but the likes of Dennis Ferrer will bring a string underground side and then the likes of John and Reboot (who again is not for me personally) will then finish the night off.

Would i prefer to see John in Space as opposed to Pacha? Probably, but he has been there and done that. This Pacha 'residency' is something different that i think suits both artist and club/promoter.

Exactly! Am never sure if these people who moan about Pacha have ever been there from 5-8AM! It's a different World from 1-4AM on nights like Insane/Solomun etc!

John Digweed in Pacha.. Close your eyes and it would be just like the old Renaissance @ Pacha days :) What time is the restaurant open until?

I know what you're saying and I think it will be successful for the promoter and artist. Just not the right mix overall to tempt me to Pacha personally (including having Ferrer and Sneak etc. involved if I'm honest). So I'd be better off seeing JD somewhere else if I want to. Not such a fan of Digweed's 'softer' sets - a bit like Gerber and Tale of Us, I'm only really excited when they go for it 'all out' (which they all do incredibly well) rather than their moodier stuff which I suspect is more likely to be dished out to a more mixed crowd.

Choice between an early night and trekking to Ibiza Town hoping Digweed's 'on form' (which isn't always the case) ? I'd probably choose the former. When you look at a line-up, entry and drinks cost a mint and only one name interests enough to grab my keys then experience time and time again tells me there's low odds of things 'working out well' for me.

I've nothing against Pacha personally, especially when the commercial crowd have gone home and numbers have thinned, but it would have been good to see a better balance in the line-ups with a Bedrock artist (or similar) slotting in before a Digweed final set to give a clear 4 1/2 hours of stuff I want to go out to hear. That would likely have been enough to tip the scales.

fair point mate.......personal taste rules all at the end of the day. I do agree with you actually from a personal point of view. When we had John on recently, our resident Jemmy was superb before him - set the tone perfectly.

Jemmy has released a bit of stuff on Bedrock so you can imagine it suited John perfectly. Guy J is another who suits John.

Good point! WOTG / Guy Gerber have some Insane take-overs. A one off Digweed 7 hour set in say September would have been amazing!

interesting, tonight's insane set times are a bit different than what i expected:

00:00-01:30 willie graff
01:30-02:30 john digweed
02:30-04:00 reboot
04:00-05:30 mk
05:30-close dj sneak

More on this when I get home tomorrow!

But Digweed on at 01:30 was the biggest WTF moment ever when I saw the set times. And 1 hour! I mean he needs 2+ at least.

However, all of the DJs were top top notch. Even MK! And Sneak closing was a dream! I assume Pacha are giving all of them different times over the season!
