Does anyone know what people who work in Publishing actually do?

I've been thinking about my career path recently, not 100% sure if Accounting is the profession for me. I love writing, reading, anything English-y really. Someone said to me I'd like working in Publishing... but I dont really know what it is :? Is it just publishing books etc :?:

What other writing/reading/creative orientated jobs can I look at :? :?:

What about Marketing? Lots of marketing roles out there in all sorts of industries. I work in the hotel & leisure industry and my role is really varied - covers a lot of the things you mentioned that you are interested in.

Good luck! :D

I have a friend who works in Publishing - I know she proof reads manuscripts for writers when they come in and amends drafts....

She also has a "photographic memory/ total recall" or whatever the correct terminology for someone who can memorise a full 2 pages of draft and repeat verbatim including the punctuation - she scares me....... 8O

Her party trick when there is an after club group people is to repeat word for word, a full conversation between said group of people that she has been eavesdropping on ....... it really freaks people out.... 8O 8O 8O

I'm convinced I have a similar ability.

If only I worked on it a little, and didn' ritually destroy my braincells, I'd be amazing at it. I'm sure the ability manifests itself in different ways though.

I have complete recall of information I have heard or read even once, but only if it is completely and utterly trivial. Hence many Bucks Fizz lyrics are ingrained so deep within my brain that I will never be free of them.

becki....

what is it u wanna do? deep down i mean?

I really dont know...

I love reading and writing, I'm quite loud, creative, like talking to people, like things that challenge my mind, really make me think etc.

But then again I like working with logic, I like things to make sense, I dont really get these "arty farty" types who daydream all day. I like to have a goal and achieve it at the end of the day.

I work in Accounts at the moment, and I know I'm good at it, but I just dont know if number crunching is for me... studying accounts has made me realise that I'm not sure whether I do want it as a career, it just doesnt interest me! :?

She could probably recite most episodes from every series verbatim - she is so totally freaky ........ You could never get one over on her and deny something - she just waits a few secs then repeats the full conversation that you had with her...... :? :? :?

Well, we all have attachments, and as much as I don't like to act the homewrecker, not many people understand the struggle it is for me to find a woman my mental equivalent.

And, as the t-shirt and song say, I love New York. It was always my dream/ambition to be working there when I get to my 30's.

Have you got pictures?
