Job Advice - Quantity Surveying???

Having never done this before I've spotted a job for a trainee quantity surveyor. Same money Im on now, but it caps out at what Im on now. Although, they fully train you over a three year period.

What the hell is quantity surveying?? I have a rough idea but don't really know. how much do they use Maths??

Sorry if this post sucks, but Id appreciate some info from you people as you're never normally shy to opine :)
 
People who account for costings etc, usually in the building industry.

If you're a tight bastard, you'll do very well.
