My sister is on the island at the moment and has said the waters are infested this year - she is in Es Cana - and loads of people stung.
Don't forget your bottles of vinegar people and to all those resident on the island, please get your nets out this weekend and clear them up because I am arriving lunchtime on Monday :P

Flamin' slimy slithery gits.

You spend all year looking forward to a lovely swim in crystal clear waters under a beautiful sky only to get your knackers stung and doused in vinegar.

Grrrrr . . . . .

It's actually their home, so we are the invasors ;)

Good point , thats what I always say when people make similar comments :) - I might not be quite so chilled if one one of them wraps its tentacles round my testacles though   . . .

"Ouchh . . . Ah well, they live here, no problem" :)

Even so, don't jellyfish need holidays too ?

A few months off seeing the sights just off the coast of England would be lovely for them and allow me to swim in peace.

It would be very good for their cultural developement and allow them to broaden their outlook on life a little.

Maybe it could be an exchange trip. England gets the Jellies over the summer and ibiza gets some of our finest 'human waste' ?

Theres THOUSANDS of them here aswell, very annoying

I might be wrong but I think it has something to see with the water temperature.

Its to do with that, but they also move to different areas to breed, and I think that is connected to moon cycles.

Altohugh I wouldn't want to get in the water with thousands of jellyfish I think they are beautiful. I love watching them :P

Agree with that, I spent lots of hours watching them in Cabo de Gata :D

If Jellyfish had legs do you think they would be :

A) Quiet, passive timid creatures who would mind their own business and hide under a stone in the woods

OR

B) Evil monsters who would chase humans down the street, corner us in dark alleyways and sting us like crazy while getting their friends to record the attack on a video phone

:?:

Terrier, what did you have for breakfast? 8O 8O

Just my usual Hallucinogenic Bran and Whizzy Marmalade.

Well, its always been said I have a bit of a fertile imagination and an interesting sideways method of looking at the world . . . . ;)

Plus, work is grim today so I'm concentrating more on Spotlight than anything else - all excited as I'm Balearic Bound on Friday :)

there are actually public warnings about a massive swarm of jellyfish currently floating about round the north of the balearics and heading this way. apparently 5000 people per day are being stung by them!

Dear me - I don't mean to be flippant about them - they are all coming to get me !

Thanks for the warning though Stephen. I'll be taking it really carefully next week I reckon.

Is there a better part of the island to head for to avoid them or is the whole place pretty much affected ?

Not being overdramtic but do you think there is there any chance that some beaches could be closed ?

i think you'll be fairly safe in santa gertrudis or san jose village. i haven't been stung once since i moved to the centre of the island.

Hmmm . . . . . right , making a mental note to pack a big bucket and take hire car info when I head for the Island this weekend.

Just make sure you have someone with a full bladder near you at all times :)
