Made me think of Watership Down

I loved that book... emotional roller coaster.

Sorry for your loss, Saffy. I had a cat die on me once and it was so depressing I haven't had another pet since. :(

lol ... funnily enough though, we saw a clip of it on 100 Best something or others ....

There's this poem that someone sent me and I nearly went to slit my wrist !!

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I can't possibly cry any more .. am all cried out !! But many thanks for all the replies .. x

Believe me, you're not the only one. mY first child was still born, and I've also had two miscarriages !

Felix WAS my baby not just a bloo dy pet !

I lost my beloved cat Lizzie on Friday, we'd had her for about 17 years, we knew she hasn't been herself since Christmas, as she'd gone off her food and stopped drinking.

We thought she would just run away and die (as cats sometimes do) and we didn't want to lose her like that so we took her up to the vet, he told us that she was diabetic and that her liver had stopped working.

He offered to put her on a drip, give her some fluids and try to increase her chances, but we were all agreed that this would just prolong the inevitable, we didn't want Lizzie to suffer, so the vet put her to sleep.

Dad took her home and buried her in the back garden, in her favorite spot in the sun.

I'm distraught, I loved that cat so much, it was part of our family, and certainly not just a pet.

I know exactly how you feel Saffy, so big hugs and chin up!
