yeah true, I guess you need to be there on a wet, freezing night to really answer this one....

I've thought a lot about whether we are city people or not. A bit conflicted on this. I survived 2 years living alone in a cold loft in the countryside before emigrating and then we went through the Spanish lockdown not seeing anyone and I don't know if that makes me indestructible now?! So much depends on friends, interests & transport, options, the usual shit

whilst it's cool to have pals around I can't stand the noise here anymore, the terrible music on the street, the dogshit and cockroaches everywhere, the amorous couple on the seventh floor going full throttle at 3am, the guys banging the butane gas cylinders outside...

Yeah

But you can tell anything after the first winter. People told me the winters are sometimes a little quiet. Depends what you have to do there. If you work every day its normal and you have the advantages of the nice months.

Glad things are going well for you Stephen! That said, St Helens? Surely it would have been safer and cheaper to rent a place in Afghanistan (with the added bonus that Kabul has fewer empty shops and much less drugs and unlicensed firearms)
