Irish Pubs

Hate to write this as a Lanky, but central Leeds trumps Manchester in my book - I'm not really sure what Manchester is these days, tons of skyscrapers in the centre but also run-down areas that need a lot of TLC; and I put the Northern Quarter (hey, if you want an expensive beer...) in that bracket - so much opportunity if it had a brush-up. Also the Gay Village ain't what it was - maybe it's because I'm getting older! But on the plus, Media City in Salford is relatively new and booming, although that's lost a bar since I last went.
Northern Quarters hipsterness frustrates this middle aged grumpy Yorkshire man :) if you want a Beer dont head for the building which looks like Bar, head for the one that looks like Jewelry shop but is actually a Bar (and vice-versa)

Then expect Prices to be listed as simply'6' 6 what? Penguins? Japanese Yen?

The amount of beggers and rogues near Picadilly concrete Gardens is another turnoff, but Manchester isnt the only place with that problem.

Well, I was there for City v Dortmund and to see friends I hadn’t seen in some time, now we live in Ibiza most of the year. 🙂

Never actually been to Leeds although I work with two DJs / Producers who are big Leeds fans…

Then when you want to tap your card the machine violently asks you to tip....🤬

Noticed a lot of that in Manchester last week - which hasn't yet started in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Brighton... (certainly not yet!).

Thankfully noticed very few of these in MCR last week - which still has plenty of great pubs. Although the beer is getting really expensive.
I was in Mulligans MCR 12 months ago and Guiness was £7.50 and i suspect it’s more now. It’s almost Temple Bar prices.
I’ve dropped by a couple of times since and it’s been too rammed to get in so ended up elsewhere.
Manchester centre has brilliant pubs

*edit - just read rest of thread

Last night found a pub in Chorley (Lancashire) selling on draught "Mallorcan White Rose" beer, £3.75/pint, and very nice it was too! No idea whether it's really brewed in Mallorca or under licence here - makes me mad that something called "Madri" can exist when it's brewed in Britain by Coors so everything you drink is questioned!! (rant over)

What beers/wines are genuinely Ibizan? I know Formentera has a vineyard and I keep forgetting to visit...!!

Rosa Blanca? That is brewed in Mallorca and we buy it in the supermarkets in Ibiza. However I read that Damm has recently launched it in the UK with a lower alcohol %.

Can Rich and Ibizkus are both easily available Ibizan wines.

Rosa Blanca?
That's the one! I'm quite happy to have lower alcohol %; means you can drink all night but causeless harm (although might tempt drivers to drive if they think their beer's weaker) - in Spain stronger beer is sold in 500ml glasses; so less than a pint so half-a-dozen equates to just under 5.5 pints.

What I would like to see in all bars here and abroad is the AV clearly marked on the pump - and in the UK anything under a certain % (think it's 3.4 - anyone??) should be cheaper as there's less duty on it.

In my experience it’s often marked
